Duke Men Take First at IC4A Championships

BRONX, N.Y. - The Duke University men's cross country team defended its 2008 title with a first-place finish at the 101st Annual IC4A Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. The Blue Devils have now won back-to-back IC4A Championships for the first time in program history.
Thirteen teams competed in Saturday's 8K championship race, with Duke finishing the day with 41 points. Second-place William and Mary totaled 67 points, while third-place George Mason finished with 113 points.
Five Blue Devils earned All-East honors on the day, led by sophomore Andrew Brodeur (25:28) in third place out of 123 finishers, followed by senior captain Ken Sullivan (25:29) in fourth place. Junior Ryan McDermott also turned in a top-10 performance, completing the course in 25:35 for eighth place.
Two freshmen, Mike Moverman and Dominick Robinson, rounded out Duke's top five, as both rookies also earned All-East accolades. Moverman ran a 25:45 for 8K to take the 11th spot, while Robinson finished 15th in 25:53.
The Blue Devils end the 2009 season on Monday, Nov. 23 at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's race is scheduled to start at 12:08 p.m. (EST), while the Duke women's squad will take part in the women's 6K race at 12:58 p.m. (EST).
