Storylines

  • Tonight’s game marks Duke’s third contest versus a Southern Conference opponent this season (Georgia Southern, Nov. 13 & UNC Greensboro, Nov. 16). The Blue Devils are 135-24 overall against teams currently in the Southern Conference and 40-2 against the SoCon under Mike Krzyzewski. Duke has won 40 straight against SoCon opponents (last loss was 75-73 versus Davidson on Dec. 29, 1981).
  • Duke leads the all-time series with Davidson, 84-17. The Blue Devils hold a 29-1 home record against the Wildcats, including a 19-1 mark at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke has won 19 consecutive versus Davidson with 12 of those wins coming at home.
  • The Blue Devils were members of the Southern Conference from 1928-53. In fact, Duke won five Southern Conference Tournament titles before becoming a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953-54. Eddie Cameron led the Blue Devils to SoCon championships in 1938, 1941 and 1942, while Gerry Gerard coached Duke to titles in 1944 and 1946.
  • Sophomore Josh McRoberts is among the most versatile big men in the country. The 6-10, 240-pound forward is averaging 10.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.6 blocks per game. In Duke’s last outing, McRoberts led the team in points (15), rebounds (8), assists (4) and blocks (2). In Duke’s 75-48 win over UNC Greensboro on Nov. 16, he blocked a career-high five shots and had a career-best seven assists, marking just the fourth time in school history a player has recorded five or more assists and blocks in the same game. McRoberts joined Mike Gminski, Danny Ferry and Shane Battier as the only players to accomplish the feat.
  • Duke has shot over 50.0 percent from the field in four of five games this season. Five players (DeMarcus Nelson, Josh McRoberts, Lance Thomas, Brian Zoubek & David McClure) are shooting 48.0 percent or better from the field, including three players (Thomas, Zoubek & McClure) shooting over 60.0 percent from the field on the year. • The Blue Devils have outrebounded each of their first five opponents, including an impressive 30-10 rebound margin in a win over Air Force. Duke ranks fourth in the ACC with a +10.8 rebound margin. Last season, the Blue Devils were 10th in the conference with a -2.7 rebound margin. The 10 opponent rebounds in the win over Air Force were the fewest in school history.
  • Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski is two wins shy of moving into a 10th place tie with Ed Diddle for career coaching victories. Krzyzewski now has 757 career wins, including 684 wins at Duke (seventh most by a coach at one school).
Junior DeMarcus Nelson was named to the CBE Classic All-Tournament team after averaging 15.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals in four games. Nelson, the CBE Classic Durham Regional MVP, shot 22-of-39 (56.4 pct.) from the field, including 7-of-14 (50.0 pct.) from three-point distance in CBE Classic action. Harris, the voice of the Blue Devils for 31 years, handles play-by-play duties for both basketball and football. He will call the Duke-North Carolina football game on Saturday and return to the mic for basketball games on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
