DURHAM, N.C. - Duke (11-1), ranked fifth in both the AP poll and ESPN/USA Today coaches poll, faces San Jose State (1-10) on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 1:08 p.m. with FSN televising the contest.

The Blue Devils will look to extend their national-best non-conference home win streak to 50 games versus the Spartans. Sam Houston State has the second-longest non-conference home win streak with 34 straight victories.

Duke posted a 61-54 win over 22nd-ranked Gonzaga in its last outing. Greg Paulus (20), Jon Scheyer (14) and Josh McRoberts (11) each scored in double-figures in the win. DeMarcus Nelson added nine points and Gerald Henderson scored seven points as Duke’s starting lineup combined for all 61 of the team’s points.

The Blue Devils committed a season-low six turnovers and used solid team defense en route to holding the Bulldogs to 54 points, 27.7 points below their season scoring average entering the contest. Duke also blocked eight shots in the contest, including a career-high four by David McClure.

Paulus went 7-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point distance en route to a career-high 20 points. In addition to his 11 points, McRoberts added 11 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals. It was his first double-double of the season and the third of his career.

Duke trailed by as many a nine in the opening half and entered halftime down 21-20. The Blue Devils shot just 22.7 percent (7-of-31) in the opening 20 minutes of play. Paulus and Scheyer sparked the offense in the second half as each player netted 12 points after halftime. As a team, Duke shot 50.0 percent (12-of-24) in the second half.

Storylines

  • Duke is 2-0 all-time against current members of the Western Athletic Conference. The Blue Devils topped Fresno State, 93-82, on Nov. 27, 1998 and Hawaii, 87-75, on Dec. 30, 1989. Both games with neutral site affairs.
  • The Blue Devils have 19 home games on the schedule this season, the most in school history. The previous high was 17 during the 1996-97 season. Duke went 15-2 at Cameron Indoor Stadium that season. The school record for home wins in a season is 16, set in 1990-91 when the team was a perfect 16-0 at home. Duke is 9-0 at home this season marking the 22nd time (1940, 1942, 1950, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1978, 1984, 1986, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007) it has opened the year with nine straight home wins. Coach K has led the Blue Devils to 9-0 starts at home 15 times, including each of the last 10 seasons.
  • Over the last three games, the Blue Devils have recorded assists on 73.5 percent (50-of-68) of their made field goals. In the first nine games of the year, Duke assisted on just 92-of-202 made field goals (45.5 pct.).
  • Sophomore Greg Paulus is coming off a career-high 20-point effort in Duke’s 61-54 win over 22nd-ranked Gonzaga on Dec. 21. He went 7-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point distance, against the Bulldogs. In the month of December, Paulus is averaging 10.8 ppg. and shooting 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from behind the three-point arc.
  • Sophomore Josh McRoberts, a preseason Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy candidate, is among the most versatile big men in the country. The 6-10, 240-pound forward is the only player in the ACC to rank in the top-10 in rebounds (seventh - 7.1 rpg.), blocks (third - 2.5 bpg.), assists (t-ninth - 4.17 apg.), assist-to-turnover ratio (sixth - 1.92:1) and minutes played (33.58 pg.). McRoberts is also second on the Duke team in scoring (11.7 ppg.) and made field goals (50). In Duke’s last outing, he had 11 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals.
  • Freshman Jon Scheyer was named the ACC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 26 after averaging 15.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in two Blue Devil victories. The Northbrook, Ill., freshman scored 17 points and pulled down three rebounds in a 79-72 win over Kent State. Two nights later, Scheyer tallied 14 points and pulled down four rebounds in a 61-54 victory over 22nd-ranked Gonzaga.
  • Duke moved into the Top 5 in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches on Dec. 25. For the AP poll, it marks the 289th poll the Blue Devils have been ranked in the Top 5 all-time. Duke owns a 474-88 record all-time as a top 5 ranked team.
