Jon Scheyer was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday as announced by the league office. Scheyer shared this week's honors with Miami's Dwayne Collins, while Virginia's J.R. Reynolds was named the ACC Player of the Week.
Scheyer averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Blue Devils posted back-to-back ACC wins over Wake Forest and N.C. State. The Northbrook, Ill., native hit on six-of-11 from the floor and pulled down five rebounds in Saturday’s 79-56 victory at N.C. State. Scheyer has scored 10 or more points in four of his last five games and is third on the team in scoring averaging 12.1 points per game. In ACC games only, the freshman guard is averaging a team-best 16.4 points per game.
In a week in which Miami lost its fourth front court player with a season-ending injury, freshman center Dwayne Collins stepped up to average 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in road games at Boston College and Florida State. The Miami, Fla., product had a career-best 24 points and 13 rebounds against the Eagles on Tuesday, marking the highest scoring output by a Hurricane freshman since Darius Rice had 28 points against Villanova Feb. 17, 2001.
Reynolds averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists as the Cavaliers posted home court victories over No. 22 Maryland and Wake Forest. The Roanoke, Va., native scored a career-high 40 points and handed out four assists in Sunday’s 88-76 win over the Demon Deacons. Reynolds scored 20 points in each half, hitting on 12-of-18 from the field, including 6-8 from three-point range, and making all 10 of his free throw attempts. In Tuesday’s 103-91 win over Maryland, the senior guard had 17 points and four assists.
