DURHAM, N.C. - Duke (16-3, 3-2), 10th in the both AP poll and ESPN/USA Today coaches poll, faces Clemson (18-2, 4-2) on Thursday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tip-off is set for 7:02 p.m. with ESPN televising the contest. The Tigers enter the contest ranked 19th in the AP poll and 17th in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.

Duke, winner of three straight games, is coming off a 79-56 win over N.C. State on Saturday. The Blue Devils limited the Wolfpack to a season-low 34.1 percent (14-of-41) shooting from the field and forced 20 turnovers. Duke has now held nine opponents to less than 35.0 percent shooting from the field and 14 foes under 60 points.

Freshman Jon Scheyer scored a team-high 20 points to lead five double-figure Blue Devil scorers. Saturday’s win marked the first time this season Duke had five players score in double-figures in the same game. Scheyer knocked down a trio of three-pointers and added five rebounds, three assists and a steal.

DeMarcus Nelson delivered 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Greg Paulus finished with 13 points and four assists. Sophomore Josh McRoberts went 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from the foul line to score 13 points. He also had eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and four steals in the win.

Duke also got great play off the bench from David McClure and Gerald Henderson. McClure went 5-of-6 from the floor and finished with 10 points, four rebounds and four steals. Henderson added eight points on 4-of-6 shooting as the Blue Devil bench outscored N.C. State’s bench 18-2.

Storylines

  • Duke leads the all-time series with Clemson 97-27, including a 43-9 mark under Mike Krzyzewski. The Blue Devils have won 23 of the last 25 home games and are 52-4 at Cameron Indoor Stadium against the Tigers. Duke has won 19 straight overall in the series.
  • The Blue Devils are 154-106 under Coach K versus ranked opponents, including a 67-27 mark since the 1997-98 season. Duke is 6-7 all-time against teams ranked 19th in the AP poll.
  • Duke has won three straight games since losing back-to-back contests to open ACC play. All three wins were by at least 20 points (+22.3 scoring margin) with the Blue Devils allowing just 53.0 points per game in that span.
  • The Blue Devils have held 14 opponents below 60 points in a game this season. The school record for most games holding the opposition under 60 is 20 (1949-50).
  • Duke’s opponents are averaging just 17.7 made field goals per game over the last three games. The Blue Devils limited N.C. State to a season-low 14 made field goals (seven in each half) in their last outing. Duke also forced 20 turnovers in the win over the Wolfpack, marking the second straight game (fifth overall) the Blue Devils have forced more turnovers than an opponent has made field goals.
  • The Blue Devils are shooting 53.9 percent from the field, including a team-best 83.3 percent (10-of-12) shooting by David McClure, in the last three games. Lance Thomas (75.0 pct.), Gerald Henderson (57.9 pct.), Josh McRoberts (56.5 pct.) and DeMarcus Nelson (54.8 pct.) are also shooting over 50.0 percent from the field during that stretch.
  • Freshman Jon Scheyer was named the ACC Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday, Jan. 22 after leading Duke to wins over Wake Forest and N.C. State. Scheyer averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the two wins. The Northbrook, Ill., native is tied for 10th in league play in scoring (16.4 ppg.), second in free throw percentage (.923 - 24-of-26) and tied for third in three-point field goals (2.40 pg.). Scheyer has made 19 straight free throws and is shooting 85.3 percent (64-of-75) from the line this season.
  • David McClure is second on the team in steals (29) and tied for second in rebounds (5.3 rpg.), while playing 21.4 minutes per game. He is also second in the ACC in rebounds (behind Boston College’s Shamari Spears - 6.2 rpg.) and steals (behind Georgia Tech’s Mario West - 35) by a non-starter. In the last three games, McClure is averaging 8.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He has also made 10-of-12 (83.3 pct.) shots from the field and 5-of-6 (83.3 pct.) free throws during that span.
  • Sophomore Josh McRoberts is currently averaging 12.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.11 assists, 2.47 blocks and 1.2 steals per game. No player in Duke history has averaged more than 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals for a season. Grant Hill (1993-94) is the only player in Duke history to average at least 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal per game. Only three players (Dick Groat - 1951-52; Danny Ferry - 1986-87 & 1988-89; Grant Hill - 1991-92 & 1993-94) have averaged at least 10 points, five rebounds and four assists per game in a season for the Blue Devils.
  • Junior DeMarcus Nelson has reached double-figures in scoring 16 times this season and is 17th in the ACC in scoring at 14.5 ppg. He is also seventh in the league in field goal percentage (.513 - 100-of-195). Nelson leads the team in steals with 30 and is tied for second in rebounding at 5.3 rpg. He is just one of three guards (joining N.C. State’s Gavin Grant and Boston College’s Sean Marshall) in the ACC averaging more than five rebounds per game.
  • Greg Paulus is averaging 11.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game over the last nine contests. He has reached double-figures in scoring in seven of the nine games and is shooting 47.9 percent (35-of-73) from the field, including 45.7 percent (21-of-46) from three-point distance in that time span. Paulus is averaging 15.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game during Duke’s current three-game win streak.
  • Freshman Gerald Henderson is averaging 7.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists over the last six games. He is also shooting 50.0 percent (19-of-38) from the field in that span. Henderson came off the bench to score eight points on 4-of-6 shooting in Saturday’s win over N.C. State.
  • Josh McRoberts is the only player in the ACC to rank in the top 10 in rebounds (fifth - 7.7 rpg.), blocks (third - 2.47 bpg.), assists (ninth - 4.11 apg.), assist-to-turnover ratio (sixth - 1.77:1) and minutes played (seventh - 34.47 pg.). He is also 24th in the league in scoring at 12.6 points per game. McRoberts is the only non-guard listed among the top 10 assist leaders in the conference and one of just two forwards among the top 10 in assist-to-turnover ratio.
  • Duke will retire the jerseys of Shelden Williams and J.J. Redick at separate ceremonies this season. Williams’ number 23 will be retired on January 28 and Redick’s number 4 will be retired on February 4 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The two former Blue Devil stars will be the 12th and 13th players to be honored at “Retirement Day” at Duke, joining Dick Groat (10), Art Heyman (25), Jeff Mullins (44), Mike Gminski (43), Johnny Dawkins (24), Danny Ferry (35), Christian Laettner (32), Bobby Hurley (11), Grant Hill (33), Shane Battier (31) and Jason Williams (22).
