BOSTON, Mass. and CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Duke’s Indoor Track and Field team competed in two meets on Friday: the Terrier Invitational and the UNC Fast Times. Six individual Blue Devils and one relay team qualified for the postseason during the course of the day.

Women’s: Sophomore Maddie McKeever finished eighth in the women’s mile at the Terrier Invitational, but more importantly qualified for the ECAC championships with her time of 4:53.90. The women’s ECAC indoor championships will be held March 3-4 in Boston.

Freshman Kate Van Buskirk continues to shine in her first year at Duke, this time with a fifth place finish in the 800 meters in Boston. Van Buskirk also qualified for the ECAC’s with her time of 2:10.46. She already ran herself into a spot in the ECAC’s in the 1000 meters this season.

Sophomore Molly Lehman qualified herself for the ECAC championships with a run of 2:56.44 in the 1000 meters at the Terrier Invitational. Lehman placed fifth in the race, and became the third Blue Devil to make the ECAC’s in the 1000 meters.

The highlight of the night for Duke was the trio of seniors in the 3000 meters in Boston: Shannon Rowbury, Elizabeth Wort, and Sally Meyerhoff. They finished one, two and six in the race, respectively. Rowbury ran the event in 9:19.07, a time that not only made ECAC’s but was under the NCAA provisional qualifying time as well. Wort ran the 3000 meters in 9:24.96, also hitting ECAC and NCAA provisional marks. Meyerhoff had a time of 9:24.96 in her first indoor meet of the season, which was good for the ECAC qualifying time.

Men’s: The main event for the men’s side on Friday was the distance medley relay team, which not only won the Terrier Invitational, but qualified for the IC4A championships. The IC4A’s are the men’s equivalent of the ECAC’s, and will also take place in Boston from March 3-4. The squad of junior Chris Spooner, junior Matt Danforth, sophomore Chris Rowland and sophomore Geary Gubbins finished the relay in 10:04.62.

Day Two: Competition will resume Saturday in both meets. Duke’s men still have running events to compete in at the Terrier Invitational, and the men and women have track and field events at UNC to finish up.
