BOSTON, Mass. and CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Duke’s Indoor Track and Field team finished up the weekend at the Terrier Invitational and the UNC Fast Times on Saturday. Five competitors placed themselves on the top five all-time Duke indoor records lists and four Blue Devils qualified for the postseason for the first time this year with their results.

Women’s: Freshman Alexa Revord finished fifth at the UNC Fast Times in the shot put with a distance of 42’-07.00”. Although she did not qualify for the ECAC’s, her mark was good for the second best shot put in Duke women’s history. Beth Maher set the record in 2004 with a distance of 43’-00.25”.

Senior Debra Vento qualified for the ECAC championships in the high jump in Chapel Hill on Saturday. Her jump of 5’-08.00” was also good for second place at the meet. The ECAC’s will be held in Boston, Mass. from March 3-4.

Men’s: Freshman Michael Schallmo made history at the UNC Fast Times on Saturday in the shot put. His distance of 50’-4.50” was short of the IC4A qualifying mark, but was the fourth longest shot put in Duke indoor track history and the longest since 1966. That was the year the record was set by Rod Stewart with a launch of 57’-10.50”.

In Boston, sophomore Chris Rowland finished 12th in the 800 meters. His time of 1:54.75 qualified him for the IC4A championships, which are the men’s equivalent of the ECAC’s.

The highlight of the day for Duke indoor track and field was in the 400 meter event at the Terrier Invitational. Senior Daniel King returned to his hometown of Boston and shattered his own Duke record in the 400 with a time of 47.61, which also will take him to the IC4A’s in Boston March 3-4. King just missed the NCAA provisional time of 47.25, and finished fifth at the meet. Junior Matt Danforth placed 21st in the 400 meters and qualified for the IC4A’s with his time of 49.05. That mark also gave him the second best time in Duke history in the 400 meters. Sophomore Nick Trombold missed the IC4A’s by two hundredths of a second with his run of 49.52, but did put himself in fifth place on the all-time best Duke 400 meter list.

A Look Ahead: Duke will compete next weekend, Feb. 2-3, at the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y. The Blue Devils will not host a meet until the outdoor season, when there will be two in Durham. The Duke Invitational is Apr. 6-7 and the Duke Twilight is May 6, and both will be held at Wallace Wade Stadium.
