DURHAM, N.C. - Duke (19-7, 6-6) faces Georgia Tech (17-8, 5-6) on Sunday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tip-off is set for 1:07 p.m. with CBS televising the contest. The Yellow Jackets topped Duke, 74-63, in the first meeting of the season.
Duke posted a 78-70 win over No. 21 Boston College on Wednesday to snap a four-game losing streak. Georgia Tech defeated Florida State, 63-57, on Tuesday for its first ACC road-win of the season.
Sophomore Josh McRoberts recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Boston College. He went 9-of-13 from the field and added five assists and three steals in 39 minutes of action.
Greg Paulus continued his solid play with 15 points, four rebounds, three steals and a game-high seven assists. The Syracuse, N.Y., native was 6-of-9 from the field, including 2-of-5 from three-point range in the win. DeMarcus Nelson added 15 points, six rebounds and three assists against the Eagles, while also helping limit ACC leading scorer Jared Dudley to 11 points and five shot attempts. Freshman Jon Scheyer also reached double-figures with 12 points.
Duke jumped out to a 43-32 halftime lead and stretched the advantage to 24 points in the second half before Boston College made a late charge. The Eagles trimmed the lead to six twice in the final three minutes but could get no closer.
The Blue Devils made a season-high 33 field goals, including eight treys, while shooting 55.9 percent (33-of-59) from the field overall. Duke also controlled the boards with a 31-22 rebounding edge, including a 13-5 advantage on the offensive glass.
Storylines
- Mike Krzyzewski is one win shy of becoming the eighth coach in NCAA history to record 700 wins at one school. Krzyzewski is also attempting to become the second fastest coach to reach 700 wins. Adolph Rupp reached his 700th win at Kentucky in 836 games. Coach K has 699 wins at Duke in 897 games. Dean Smith is currently second, reaching 700 wins in 904 games at North Carolina. Krzyzewski (772) is also just two wins shy of matching Smith (774) for most coaching wins through 32 years as a head coach.
- Duke is one win shy of registering its 20th win of the season. The Blue Devils have won 20 or more games in 10 consecutive seasons, including 30 or more wins in six of the past nine seasons.
- The Blue Devils are 18th in the RPI and have the fourth toughest strength of schedule. Duke is 5-6 against teams in the top 35 of the RPI, including a 4-1 mark against top 20 teams.
- Duke recorded nine dunks and held a 48-20 edge on points in the paint in Wednesday's win over Boston College. The Blue Devils also forced 19 turnovers and posted a 28-17 advantage in points off turnovers.
- The Blue Devils forced a season-high 28 turnovers in their Jan. 10 loss at Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets overcame the turnover difficulties at the foul line where they were 23-of-29 (79.3 pct.). In contrast, Duke attempted just 11 free throws (making seven) in the loss.
- Duke is forcing the opposition into 15.0 turnovers per game. The Blue Devils are 12-2 on the season when forcing at least 15 turnovers in a contest. Duke has forced more turnovers than an opponent has made fi eld goals in six games this season. The Blue Devils are 5-1 in such games with the only loss coming in the first meeting with Georgia Tech (22 field goals, 28 turnovers).
- Sophomore Josh McRoberts is averaging 19.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.5 steals in the last two games. The Carmel, Ind., native went 18-of-26 (69.2 pct.) from the floor, while playing 76 of the 80 possible minutes in the two games. McRoberts enters Sunday’s contest ranked among the ACC leaders in scoring (13.3 ppg. - 20th), field goal percentage (.510 - eighth), rebounds (8.0 rpg. - second), defensive rebounds (6.0 - first), blocks (2.46 bpg. - second) and minutes played (34.96 mpg. - sixth).
- Greg Paulus is averaging 11.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in ACC play. He also has a 1.48:1 assist-to-turnover ratio in conference action and has scored in double-figures in nine of 12 league games. Over the last four games, Paulus is averaging a team-high 16.3 ppg. and 4.5 assists, while shooting 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from three-point range.
- Jon Scheyer is the fifth-leading freshman scorer (12.2 ppg.) in the ACC this season. His 49 treys are tied for the most (along with North Carolina’s Wayne Ellington) in the ACC by a freshman this season. Scheyer’s 49 three-pointers are also the fourth-most at Duke by a freshman.
