A record-breaking year for the Duke baseball team continued Wednesday as the seventh Blue Devil was taken in the 2018 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Senior left-handed pitcher Mitch Stallings was chosen by the Atlanta Braves in the 30th round with the 892nd overall pick. Stallings is the seventh Blue Devil selected in this year's draft, tying the 2009 record for Duke picks in a single draft year.
For the fourth time Wednesday, a Duke Blue Devil was selected in the 2018 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, as senior third baseman and relief pitcher Jack Labosky was taken in the 22nd round (660th overall pick) by the Tampa Bay Rays.
With the first pick in the 18th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, the Detroit Tigers selected Duke right handed pitcher Ethan DeCaster. DeCaster, selected 525th overall, becomes the fifth Blue Devil selected in this year's draft, marking the program's most picks since five in 2015. The record for Duke picks in a single draft year is seven in 2009.
