DURHAM, N.C.- On Sunday, Duke women's basketball incoming freshman Elizabeth Williams was named one of 12 finalists for the 2011 USA Basketball Women's U19 World Championship Team. Williams and the U19 squad will travel to Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas, Chile from July 21-31 to defend its gold medal.
Williams took time away to talk about her experience this past weekend in Florida during the training.
June 7, 2011 - Wow. What an experience! The days seemed long as they were happening, but looking back all that went on seems all jumbled together. The showcase was great, with everything from team building with Julie Foudy to our final win over Brazil -- being in Florida for training camp was awesome.
Now it's time to work even harder this summer and prepare for Chile. There is no June session at Duke so I will be at home getting in greater shape and working at some basketball camps until then. I enjoyed spending time with the team and I'm looking forward to representing the USA in the U19 World Championship in Chile!
June 4, 2011 - Our team has been practicing hard these last few days and everyone has been feeling it. Now we need to push through it, so we can be successful in our scrimmage tomorrow.
We had quite a bit of down time before our second practice/organized scrimmage, so I'm trying to get some school work done while I'm resting. This evening we're going to have an organized scrimmage half of the time and watch film the other half. We scrimmaged Brazil yesterday and did not perform well in any aspect, so we have to learn from our mistakes as well as fix them. Well it's nap time for me! I can't wait until tomorrow's scrimmage!
