Honors: ACC Academic Honor Roll (2015)
2015-16: Participated in four competitions during the indoor season and five during the outdoor campaign…in indoor competition, finished sixth at the VT Challenge (2/19) in the weight throw, tossing the implement 53-1.50 (16.19) and earning the third-best distance in Duke history…earned fourth in the shot put at the Carolina Cup (1/15) with a mark of 51-4.50 (15.66)…during the outdoor season, finished fifth in the hammer throw at the Duke Invitational (4/22) with a distance of 162-10 (49.63)…at the Battle of the Blues (4/2), claimed fifth in shot put with a mark of 50-6.25 (15.40)…finished in the top-15 at the ACC Outdoor Championships (5/14) in the shot put after tossing the implement 46-2.50 (14.08) and placing 13th.
2014-15: Competed six times in the shot put during his rookie outdoor season in Durham…produced his best throw of the season at the Georgia Tech Invite (4/17), placing eighth with a mark of 49-11.75 (15.23)…used a throw of 47-11.25 (14.61) to finish 20th at the ACC Outdoor Championships (5/15)…earned his best finish of the year by taking third at the Duke Twilight (5/7), tossing the implement 48-7.50 (14.82)…claimed fourth and seventh in the shot put at the Carolina Relays (3/20) and Duke Invitational (4/11), respectively…did not compete during 2015 indoor season…named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Prior to Duke: Lettered two years in track & field at Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn., under the direction of coaches Ronnie Seigenthaler and Gary Kinder…won gold in the shot put at the 2014 Tennessee state meet and earned runner-up honors in 2012…set the shot put record at Brentwood with a toss of 60-9.5 (18.53)...competed in club track & field for KinderSport…earned All-America honors in 2012 by finishing first in the shot put at the AAU Club National meet…also garnered All-America status for his sixth-place finish in the shot put at the 2012 New Balance Outdoor Nationals…also played basketball, football and baseball during high school…in football, named to the Murphy Fair 6A Preseason All-State team as a junior…was the only two-way starter on his state-qualifying team…member of the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes…earned an AP Scholar with Honor award in 2013 and 2014…participated in Care Bears to help special needs students.
Personal: The son of John and Margie Maher…born Nov. 11, 1994 in Franklin, Tenn….has three sisters, Beth, Jennifer and Kathleen…sister, Beth, graduated from Duke in 2007 and was a thrower on the track team, holding three school records during her time…sister, Jennifer, graduated from Duke in 2012…father, John, played football for Middle Tennessee State from 1972-76…mother, Margie, played Tennis at Middle Tennessee State from 1972-76.
