DURHAM, N.C. - Juniors Kaitlyn McCarthy and Ellyse Hamlin of the Duke women’s tennis team were chosen as the Duke Student-Athletes of the Week as they won the 2017 Riviera ITA All-American Doubles Championship. The Blue Devil pair won its first four matches of the tournament to reach the final, including three wins over ITA ranked opponents.

In Sunday’s final, McCarthy and Hamlin trailed Texas Tech’s eighth-ranked pairing of Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici 4-1 early in the first set. However, the Duke tandem rallied to win nine of the next 14 games to send the match to a third set tiebreaker. There, McCarthy and Hamlin closed out the match to win the title. McCarthy and Hamlin are now a perfect 8-0 in doubles matches during the fall season and have beaten four ranked pairs.

Duke will continue its fall season on Oct. 19 with the start of the ITA Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.
