A member of the Duke Athletics staff since 1988, Mike Sobb is an Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs with daily oversight of marketing, promotions, group and season ticket sales, and corporate sponsorships. Sobb also has sport oversight responsibilities for men’s golf and serves as chairman of the ACC Men’s Golf Committee and ACC Marketing Directors Committees.

After serving as an assistant in the sports information office, Sobb took over as Promotions Director in 1990 and in January 2001, was promoted to Director of Marketing when the marketing and promotions department expanded and reorganized. In May 2004, he was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing before being elevated to his current role in March of 2011. Sobb was also responsible for Duke Athletics’ corporate partners program for nearly 20 years until IMG College assumed the rights in July 2009.

Sobb oversees Duke Athletics’ marketing efforts for all 26 sports, with direct responsibilities tied to football and basketball, in addition to leading a staff of six marketing members. He is the department liaison with IMG College, Duke’s multi-media rights holder, and IMG Learfield Ticket Sales, Duke’s third-party ticket sales team. He coordinated the purchase, installation and implementation of the video board in Wallace Wade Stadium as well as new scoreboards and/or signage in Cameron Indoor Stadium, Koskinen Stadium, Ambler Stadium and at Williams Field. Sobb also founded Duke’s Read With the Blue Devils program in the spring of 1991 and oversees the department’s dealer car program.

Sobb is chairman of the ACC Marketing Director’s Committee and is also the athletics representative on the Corporate Relations and Calendar Committees for Duke University. A founding board member of the Emily Krzyzewski Family Life Center, he was responsible for oversight of the building of the community center in Durham.

His role as sport supervisor for men’s golf includes day-to-day interaction with the coaches, current and former student-athletes and other support staff, oversight of the team’s budget and coordination of efforts to continually enhance the program. In addition, Sobb is chair on the three-person ACC Men’s Golf Tournament Committee. Sobb’s passion for golf makes him a natural fit to work with the men’s team. He has helped run Duke’s annual tournament for over 15 years and worked with the golf staff on the rededication of the Duke University Golf Club in the spring of 1994. Sobb served as marketing chair for the 2001 Division I NCAA Men’s Golf Championships at Duke. He is an active member of the North Carolina Golf Panel and maintains the displays and historical murals in the Karcher-Ingram golf team building as well.

A 1987 graduate of Indiana University with a bachelor of science degree in Marketing from the Kelley School of Business, Sobb worked for three years in sports information at his alma mater as a student assistant before serving a one-year sports information internship at the University of North Carolina.

Sobb resides in Durham with his three children, Keith, Molly and Ben.
