Summer McKeehan, MS, LAT, ATC Associate Athletic Trainer (Women’s Basketball) Joined Duke: 2001 Hometown: Winston-Salem, North Carolina Alma Mater: University of Utah, Utah State University
Summer McKeehan joined the Duke staff in July of 2001 and serves as the associate athletic trainer. Her duties include working with the women’s basketball program while acting as the insurance coordinator.
McKeehan joined the Blue Devils after serving as a graduate athletic trainer at the University of Utah from 1998-2001. During her time at the University of Utah, she volunteered as the athletic trainer for the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Prior to that, she was a volunteer student athletic trainer at United States Naval Academy for four months and a student athletic trainer at Utah State for four years.
Over the summer of 2010 and 2011, McKeehan served as the athletic trainer for the USA Basketball U18 Women’s National Team and U19 World Championship team. The U18 squad won the FIBA Americas gold medal and the U19 squad won the World Championship in Chile. McKeehan also won a gold medal in 2014 with the USA Basketball U17 National Team in Czech Republic. She then traveled to Russia in the summer of 2015 as the USA Basketball U19 World Championship team won the gold medal.
A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., McKeehan earned her bachelor’s degree from Utah State in 1998 and her master’s degree from the University of Utah in 2001. She has been a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association since 1998 and the North Carolina Athletic Trainer’s Association since 2001.
