Duke won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Richmond will receive and defend the South endzone.

Large Crowd

The attendance for Saturday's game was 33,311. It is the largest home crowd for the Blue Devils since they had 35,206 against N.C. State on Nov. 3, 2001.

First Collegiate Starts

Several Duke players earned their first collegiate starts against Richmond. On offense, three offensive linemen started for the first time. Senior Jarrod Holt, playing in his 31st career game, started at right tackle. Redshirt junior Mitchell Lederman started at left guard in his 24th contest. Redshirt Brian Moore made his collegiate debut at right guard. Defensively, Duke had two outside linebackers start for the first time, including redshirt junior Abraham Kromah and junior Damian Thornton.

Collegiate Debuts

Among the players playing in their first collegiate game for Duke were Zach Greene, Conner Vernon, Walt Canty, Cameron Jones, Jordon Byas, Patrick Kurunwune, Austin Gamble, Tyree Glover, Brian Moore, Jackson Anderson, Tony Foster, Kenny Anunike, Will Snyderwine and John Drew.

Consecutive Starts

Vince Oghobaase earned his 37th consecutive start to lead the team. Kevin Jones started for the 25th straight game as punter. Bryan Morgan and Kyle Hill each earned their 13th consecutive starts.

Lewis Moves Up Duke Touchdown Charts

Thaddeus Lewis threw two touchdown passes, one 54 yards to Johnny Williams in the second quarter and the other 21 yards to Aaron Kelly in the fourth quarter, to move into sole possession of second place on Duke's career touchdown list. Lewis now has 49 career touchdown passes, passing Spence Fisher and Steve Slayden for second place. The two touchdown performance was the 14th multi-touchdown game of Lewis' career.

Lewis Throws For Over 300 Yards

Lewis completed 34 of his 55 pass attempts for 350 yards and two touchdowns for his fifth career 300-yard passing game. The 350 passing yards was the 30th highest passing total in school history. It was also the 17th career 200-yard game for Lewis. He had six 200-yard games last season and two 300-yard games.

Lewis Breaks Own Record

Lewis' 55 pass attempts without an interception broke his own school record. He had 52 passes without an interception last season against N.C. State. The 55 pass attempts were a career best for Lewis. He had 34 pass completions which tied for the second most in his career.

Williams Scores First Touchdown

Johnny Williams caught a 54-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter for his first career collegiate touchdown. The 54-yard catch was a career long for Williams.

Williams Goes Over 100 Yards

Williams finished the game with seven catches for 115 yards. It was the second career 100-yard receiving game for Williams. He also went over 100 yards against Northwestern last season with 135 yards on 11 catches.

Kelly Has Career Day

Junior Austin Kelly had the top game of his career with seven catches for 80 yards and one touchdown. The seven catches are three more than his previous career best while his 80 yards tops his previous high of 49 against Wake Forest in 2007. The touchdown catch was the second of his career.

First Catches For Vernon and Watkins

On the first collegiate offensive snap for true freshmen Conner Vernon and Tyree Watkins, both players recorded the first reception of their careers. Vernon caught a 17-yard pass from Thaddeus Lewis in the second quarter and Watkins caught a 14-yard pass from Lewis in the third quarter. Vernon finished the game with four catches for 48 yards while Watkins had three grabs for 31 yards.

Spreading The Ball Around

Lewis completed passes to eight different receivers with seven players catching two or more passes and three notching at least five receptions.

Oghobaase Moves In To Tackles For Loss Top 10

Vince Oghobaase recorded one tackle for loss to give him 30.0 TFLs in his career, tying him with Scott Youmans for 10th on Duke's career list. Oghobaase tallied nine total tackles in the game to tie for second most on the team.

Double Digit Tackles

Senior linebacker Vincent Rey notched 14 tackles for his 13th career double figure tackle game. The 14 tackles are the third-most in a game for Rey.

Kromah Sets Career High

Redshirt junior Abraham Kromah set a career high with nine tackles against Richmond. His previous career best was five tackles at Clemson last season.

Duke Scores Two On Safety

Duke scored two points on a safety when Richmond long snapper Colin Pehanick snapped the ball through the back of the endzone in the first quarter. It was the Blue Devils' first safety since a team safety against Wake Forest on Oct. 6, 2007.
