Team Notes:

  • Duke advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight for the 18th time in school history and 12th time under head coach Mike Krzyzewski. The Blue Devils have a 40-8 record all-time as a No. 1 seed in the tournament.
  • The Blue Devils are now 11-4 all-time against teams from the Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament, including a 2-1 record against Purdue. 
  • Duke is making its 15th straight NCAA Tournament under head coach Mike Krzyzewski and 26th in his 30 overall seasons. Krzyzewski extended his NCAA record for tournament wins to 74. He is now 74-22 (.771) all-time in the NCAA Tournament, the second highest winning percentage among coaches all-time.
  • The Blue Devils improved to 32-5 on the season. The 32 victories tie for the fifth most in a single season by a Duke team, matching the win total of the 1990-91, 1997-98 and 2005-06 teams.
  • Duke has won all three of its NCAA Tournament games by double figures, outscoring Arkansas-Pine Bluff, California and Purdue by an average of 19.0 points per game. The Blue Devils have won by more than 10 points in 24 of the 32 victories this season.
  • The Blue Devils have also held all three of its NCAA Tournament opponents under 60 points, allowing just 51.3 points per game. They have held 20 teams to under 60 points this season.
  • Duke is just the seventh team to score 70 or more points against Purdue this season.
  • After shooting just .241 (7-of-29) in the first half, Duke made 15 of its 26 shots (.577) after halftime, including 3-of-6 from behind the three-point line. The Blue Devils scored zero points in the paint in the first half but outscored Purdue 20-8 in the paint during the second stanza.
  • Duke shot .833 (20-of-24) from the free throw line in the game, including 11-of-12 (.917) in the final two minutes of the contest. The Blue Devils have shot 80 percent or better from the foul line in 17 overall games this year.
  • The Blue Devils improved to 27-2 when outrebounding its opponents this season, holding a commanding 48-27 advantage on the glass Friday.


Player Notes:

Miles Plumlee

  • Sophomore Miles Plumlee came off the bench to pull down seven rebounds, his 20th contest with five or more.


Jon Scheyer

  • Senior Jon Scheyer has started in 44 consecutive games and is one of 22 players in school history with 100 or more career starts.
  • Scheyer played in his 141st career game, moving him into a tie with Brian Davis and Thomas Hill for sixth on Duke’s career games played list.
  • The double-figure scoring game was the 35th of the season for Scheyer and his 111th career game with at least 10 points. His 35 double-figure scoring games rank tied for eighth most in a single season at Duke while his 111 games are tied with Mike Gminski and Grant Hill for fifth most in a career.
  • Scheyer scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half, making 5-of-9 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
  • Scheyer extended his streak to 30 consecutive games with a made three-point field goal and leads the team with 99 treys this season. 
  • With 18 points Scheyer climbed past Jim Spanarkel into ninth on Duke’s career scoring list with 2,019 career points.
  • Scheyer had his 10th game this season with five or more rebounds.


Kyle Singler

  • Junior Kyle Singler extended his consecutive starts streak to 64 games, the longest current streak on the team. He now has 106 career starts as one of 22 players in school history with 100 or more career starts.
  • Singler notched his team-leading 16th game with 20 or more points, scoring 20 or more for the second time in the NCAA Tournament and eighth time in his last 12 games. He now has 31 career 20-point games and has reached double figures in scoring in 34 of the 37 games on the year. Over his last 12 games, he is averaging 21.0 points per game.
  • Singler became just the fifth Duke player to score at least 1,700 points by the end of their junior season and passed Christian Laettner for the fourth most points by a junior.
  • He made 4-of-6 three-point field goals in the game for his 13th game with three or more treys.
  • The eight rebounds give him 17 games with eight or more.
  • Singler also had two steals for his 10th game with two or more.


Nolan Smith

  • Junior Nolan Smith tallied his 33rd game this season with 10 or more points and has 56 career double-figure scoring games.
  • With the score 42-40 and 9:36 remaining, Smith scored two field goals in the paint and hit a three-point field goal for seven straight Duke points to put them up 49-40. The Blue Devils’ lead never fell below six from that point forward. 
  • Smith recorded his 100th career three-point field goal in the contest.
  • With five rebounds, Smith now has recorded at least five boards in five games this season.
  • The four assists give Smith 103 this season. In his first two seasons combined, Smith recorded a total of 103 assists.


Lance Thomas

  • Senior Lance Thomas grabbed five rebounds for his 18th game with five or more.
  • Thomas drew two charges in the game to give him a team-high 16 on the season.


Brian Zoubek

  • Senior Brian Zoubek hauled in 14 rebounds in the game, including 11 in the first half. The double-figure rebounding game was the 11th on the year for Zoubek and 13th of his career. He has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in eight of his 14 games as a starter.
  • In his 14 games as a starter, Zoubek is averaging 9.4 rebounds per game. In the three NCAA Tournament games, Zoubek is averaging 10.3 rebounds per game with 27 rebounds in his last two games.
