JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Notre Dame used a four-goal run in the fourth quarter to outlast fifth-ranked Duke 12-7  in front of 8,152 fans at the Sunshine Classic at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla. Senior Justin Turri led all Duke scorers with two goals and an assist.

Senior Zach Howell added two scores for the Blue Devils and sophomore Josh Offit had a goal and two assists. Zach Brenneman led seventh-ranked Notre Dame with three goals and two assists.

"Overall for our second game of the year against a good Notre Dame team with a good amount of experience I think we did a pretty good job," Turri said. "We played well in the first half and we didn't convert a couple of opportunities and their goalie made some nice saves."

After a slow start that featured no goals and just 16 shots in the first quarter, the scoring pace started to pick up in the second frame with Duke and Notre Dame combined for six.

Duke tallied the first goal of the game just over five minutes into the second quarter as Turri found Tom Rynn on the left side for the 1-0 lead. The marker was his first goal since the 2009 season. Offit made it 2-0 Duke midway through the stanza with a low shot past the foot of John Kemp.

After being held scoreless for nearly 25 minutes, Notre Dame came back with three goals in a span of 36 seconds to take a 3-2 lead with 5:17 left in the first half. The Irish made it a 4-0 run with a goal from Max Pfeifer to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.

Duke stopped the 4-0 run at the 10:32 mark of the third quarter with a strike from Howell from seven yards directly in front of the cage.

Notre Dame answered with consecutive scores to earn its largest lead of the game at 6-3. David Earl notched the first on a man-up opportunity and Pat Cotter got on the board two minutes later.

Facing its largest deficit of the day, Turri pulled the Blue Devils back within two with five minutes left in the third frame as he beat an Irish defenseman to the left and fired a shot past Kemp.

The Irish continued to answer Duke's goals as it went up by three again at the 2:41 mark with a score from Brenneman for a 7-4 lead after 45 minutes of action.

The trading of goals continued to start the fourth session. Howell scored first to give Duke's its fifth goal of the game, but moments later it was Brenneman again for the Irish to keep it a three-goal game at 8-5 with 12:23 left to play.

That goal by Brenneman sparked another 4-0 run for Notre Dame as it stretched the lead to 11-5 before Turri notched his second score of the day to put the scoreboard at 11-6.

Both teams scored in the last two minutes to make it a 12-7 final score.

Notre Dame held a 38-32 advantage in shots and won the faceoff battle with 13 victories at the draw. Duke picked up 33 ground balls to Notre Dame's 29 and both squads scored one man-up goal. In goal, freshman Dan Wigrizer made six saves in 45 minutes of action, while Mike Rock had one stop in the final quarter. John Kemp had 10 saves for the Irish.

Duke travels north to Philadelphia to take on Pennsylvania on Feb. 26. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m.
