DURHAM, N.C. -  The 11th-seeded Blue Devils swept Maryland, 4-0, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will advance to the round of 16 in Palo Alto, Calif. where they will face Georgia on Thursday at 9 a.m. (PT).

The match was moved indoors to the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center after heavy rains fell and covered the outdoor courts.

The first point of the match came down to a pair of tiebreakers at the No. 1 and 2 doubles courts. Duke's Fred Saba and Torsten Wietoska had an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot to give the Blue Devils the advantage. Maryland evened things up when Jesse Kiuru and Andy Magee won the No. 2 tiebreaker, 9-8 (3). The No. 1 match was left to decide the first team point.

Just as they have done all year long, No. 7 Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha walked away victorious. The duo downed No. 34 John Collins and Maros Horny 9-8 (4) to clinch the point. Carleton and Cunha are now 36-5 overall this season and 24-3 in dual matches.

Head Coach Ramsey Smith Postmatch Interview

All six Duke players flew out of the gate and went up a break within the first few games of their singles contests. Each of the six would also go on to win first sets, matching Friday's performance.

Duke would gain team points from each of the top three in the order for the second straight day as Carleton, Cunha and Chris Mengel all earned straight set victories. Carleton was the first to finish, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 win to improve to 35-9 on the season. He moves into a tie with Jason Rayman and current head coach Ramsey Smith for fourth on Duke's single season wins list. Next up Cunha downed No. 106 Horny 6-1, 7-5 for his 19th win over a ranked opponent. Mengel clinched the contest with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tommy Laine for his fifth match-clinching win of the year. He is now 32-11 in his freshman season, tying him for fifth most on the freshman singles wins list at Duke.

The Blue Devils improved to 22-9 overall and will advance to the round of 16 for the second straight year. It is the 13th time in school history Duke has won two matches in the NCAA Tournament as they are now 38-19 overall in the tournament.
