DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University rising sophomores Natasha Anasi and Avery Rape led their Dallas Texas club team to the Region III Championship over the weekend with a 2-1 victory over the Sting 92.
With the win, the Texas will return to the national championships, which will take place July 26-31 in Phoenix, Arizona.
After a 0-0 game through 90 minutes, the contest provided plenty of drama in the extra time. The Sting found the net first as Samantha Howell put her team in front in the 94th-minute. Alyssa Diggs equalized for the Dallas Texans just two minutes later. Less than five minutes from the threat of a shootout, Amanda Frisbie’s individual effort and willingness to take on defenders in the final third resulted in the game winning goal.
With her efforts from the central defender position, Anasi was named the U19 Tournament MVP.
