Mike Krzyzewski met with local media on Tuesday afternoon in Scharf Hall to discuss the upcoming 2011-12 basketball season as well as several other relevant topics. Krzyzewski, who will be honored with the Dr. James A. Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award at the Progress Energy Center's Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh on Wednesday, fielded questions from the media in Scharf Hall for nearly 50 minutes.DURHAM, N.C. - Duke head coach
Krzyzewski entertained the 45 media members in attendance with his insights on the staff addition of Jeff Capel, Duke's upcoming trip to China, the 2011-12 Blue Devils as well as Wednesday night's Naismith Awards presentation in Raleigh and the tragic loss of N.C. State legend Lorenzo Charles. The highlight of the afternoon press conference may have been Krzyzewski's take on the basketball gods. On cue with his comments were an eruption of thunder overhead and a 10-minute rain storm that provided the room a good laugh to wrap up the availability.
"It's been a great summer for me and that I've had a little bit more time," said Krzyzewski. "I'm not doing anything with USA Basketball this summer. So, that's a good thing. Just a little bit of a break from the intensity, not from the learning, but from the intensity of it. All of our team will be back to start class on July 5th for the second session of summer school. Obviously it's been already talked about and put out that we are going to China and Dubai. So we will be able to practice a little bit during second semester summer school and then head off around the 13th of August and come back the 27th. That's something to really look forward to, we're anxious to do that."
