Blue Team Goes 2-0 in Intrasquad Games

DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke baseball team wrapped up its fourth week of fall practice with a pair of intrasquad games.

In Friday's intrasquad game, junior Chase Bebout limited the White Team to one run on four hits in five innings of work as the Blue Team picked up a 3-1 win. Bebout struck out six batters and walked none to earn the victory. Freshman Dalton Brown then pitched three scoreless frames, holding the White Team to just four hits. Senior David Putman then worked a shutout ninth inning, striking out two batters to earn the save.

Freshman Grant McCabe led the Blue Team at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Chris Marconcini went 2-for-5, while sophomore Jordan Betts was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman Andy Perez, junior Ryan Munger and sophomores Anthony D'Alessandro and Angelo LaBruna had one hit apiece for the Blue Team.

Senior Will Piwnica-Worms went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI to pace the White Team at the plate. Sophomore Matt Berezo, sophomore Aaron Cohn and freshman Reed Anthes added two hits each, while freshman Andrew Istler had a hit in the game.

Freshman Remy Janco had a pair of strikeouts in his one inning of scoreless relief for the White Team.

In Sunday's intrasquad game, the Blue Team scored six runs in the final three innings, overcoming a 4-0 deficit to win 6-4.

Junior Marcus Stroman was dominant for the White Team on the mound, striking out five batters and holding the Blue Team to no hits in four shutout innings.

Sophomore Dillon Haviland was equally impressive for the Blue Team as he held the White Team to one hit in five shutout frames. Haviland registered four strikeouts and issued one walk on the mound.

The White Team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-0 lead. The Blue Team then scored two runs in each of the final three innings to claim the 6-4 win.

Betts led the Blue Team at the plate in Sunday's intrasquad, finishing 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Betts hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth that tied the game at 4-4. McCabe, Perez, Piwnica-Worms and Cohn added one hit apiece in the win.

Janco picked up the win after tossing one and two-thirds shutout innings. Sophomore Josh Ruffin earned the save, retiring the final batter of the top of the ninth.

Anthes and LaBruna both finished 2-for-5 at the plate, while Istler, junior Jeff Kremer and freshman Sarkis Ohanian all had one hit and one RBI each.
