DURHAM, N.C. - Duke women's lacrosse junior Maddie Salamone has been selected to represent the Atlantic Coast Conference on the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, marking the first time Duke has had an ACC representative on the national committee.

"Maddie exemplifies the total ACC student-athlete in her leadership on and off the field," said Duke Assistant Director of Athletics/Student-Athlete Welfare Leslie Barnes. "She has a solid work ethic, character and heart for her academics, sport, teammates and support staff. Her passion for student-athlete well-being will be an asset nationally as well as on our conference and campus level. Duke is fortunate to have this young lady representing the ACC and our university."

The SAAC, whose mission is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image, is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.

The Division I SAAC consists of one student-athlete from each of the 31 Division I multi-conferences. Members serve two-year terms and are selected by the Division I Administration Cabinet from a pool of three nominees from each of the represented conferences. It is through these mechanisms that NCAA Division I student-athletes offer input and assist in shaping the proposed legislation by which their division is governed.
