DURHAM, N.C. - Duke play-by-play announcer Bob Harris has been named the 2011 North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year, announced on Monday by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.  Harris also received the state honor in 1988 and 1991.

A native of Albermarle, N.C., Harris has served as the play-by-play voice of the Blue Devils since 1976.  On October 15, 2011, he called his 400th consecutive football game as Duke hosted Florida State at Wallace Wade Stadium.  In addition, Harris has broadcast nearly 1,200 basketball games including all four of Duke's national championship wins.

The NSSA also announced its two-man Hall of Fame class, with Duke alumnus and award-winning author John Feinstein of the Washington Post joining Bob Costas of NBC Sports and the Major League Baseball Network.  In addition, the NSSA named Dan Shulman of ESPN as its National Sportscaster of the Year and Joe Posnanski of Sports Illustrated as the National Sportswriter of the Year, along with 103 total state Sportscasters and Sportswriters of the Year.

The 53rd annual NSSA Awards Banquet is set for June 11, 2012 in Salisbury, N.C.
