CAMDEN, N.J. - The Duke women's rowing team captured two medals on Sunday in the grand finals of the 2012 Knecht Cup on Cooper River. Duke's top boat claimed first in the women's varsity eight while the second varsity eight finished second in the final day of competition.

The V8 crew of Caroline Kiritsy, Kathy Smithwick, Katie Burke, Emily Theys, Rory Erickson-Kulas, Tara Dalton, Laura Sciarrino, Grace Cassidy and Claire Vannelli turned in its top time of the season, posting a 6:25.68 to edge Bucknell by 1.29 seconds.

In the second varsity eight, the Blue Devils placed second out of six boats as they finished under one second behind Bucknell in a very close race.  Comprised of Emilie Marchetti, Brielle Batesko, Tori Arendt, Breanna Briede, Lauren Lashmet, Sophia Blair, Julie Rohde, Laura Guth and Sydney Johnson, Duke posted its fastest time of the season with a 6:46.79 finish.

The women's varsity four was the closest race of the day, as the Blue Devils earned second place in the petite final with a time of 7:49.23 to cross the finish line less than .40 seconds behind Loyola.

"All of our boats had strong showings this weekend," said head coach Robyn Horner. "The varsity eight has won here before, but this is the first time the second varsity eight has medaled here which is amazing. These races helped us see what we need as we head into ACC's, and we will use this weekend as motivation for preparation."
