Duke Heads to ACC Tournament as Top Seed
Duke will be the top seed in the ACC Tournament for the fifth time in program history and for the third time under head coach John Danowski ... Duke earned the top seed after going 2-1 in conference games and holding the  head-to-head tiebreaker over Virginia ... The Blue Devils open the tournament against No. 4 seed Maryland, which is 7-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action ... The contest will be a rematch of the 2011 ACC Championship, which the Terrapins won.

Three Blue Devils Earn All-ACC Honors
Seniors CJ Costabile and Robert Rotanz and sophomore Jordan Wolf all earned spots on the 2012 All-ACC Men's Lacrosse Team as voted by the league's coaches ... Costabile and Wolf earn repeat honors, while Rotanz picks up his first career All-ACC award ... Wolf is the first Blue Devil to earn all-conference recognition in his first two consecutive seasons.

2012 Season Notes

  • Duke is riding an eight-game win streak and has four wins over ranked opponents in that span, including over No. 1 Virginia
  • Duke is 11-3 overall and finished 2-1 in the ACC to win the ACC regular season title for the ninth time overall and fifth time under head coach John Danowski ... All three losses came on the road against teams ranked in the top 10
  • Duke finished the regular season home schedule unblemished at 8-0, the 11th time in program history it went unbeaten at home
  • Duke is 2-3 in true road contests and 1-0 in neutral site games
  • Jordan Wolf is the team's top points scorer with 50 points (26g, 24a) ... Josh Dionne is the top goal scorer with 28 and has 33 points overall ... Robert Rotanz has a career-high 33 points and Christian Walsh has 32
  • With four goals against No. 1 Virginia, Josh Dionne moved to second in the ACC in goals scored (28) and goals per game (2.00) ... CJ Costabile is atop the league in overall ground balls (93)
  • Duke has three of the top four goal scorers in the ACC with Josh Dionne, Robert Rotanz and Jordan Wolf ranking No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, respectively.
  • Duke has held eight of its 14 opponents to fewer than 10 goals this season
  • Redshirt senior Michael Manley leads the defense with 20 caused turnovers
  • Dan Wigrizer, Kyle Turri and Mike Rock all have started at least twice this season between the pipes ... Duke is allowing 8.94 goals per game overall as a team

Duke - Maryland Series History
Duke and Maryland are meeting for the 76th time since the first game in 1940 ... The Terrapins hold a convincing 57-18 lead in the series and are 6-4 against the Blue Devils in the past 10 contests ... The two teams have met 10 times in the ACC Tournament with both teams taking home five victories ... Friday night's matchup will be a rematch of the 2011 ACC Championship game, which Maryland won 11-9 in Durham ... Duke is 4-2 against the Terps in the semifinal round of the ACC Tournament and 0-2 as the tournament's top seed.

Scouting Maryland
Maryland heads into the ACC Tournament with a 7-3 overall record after upending No. 3 Johns Hopkins 9-6 over the weekend ... The Terps finished the ACC schedule with a 1-2 mark with the win coming against the Blue Devils on March 3 ... Joe Cummings leads the offense with 17 goals and 11 assists for 28 points, while Owen Blye has 14 goals and nine assists for 23 points ... Curtis Holmes anchors the faceoff game for Maryland, winning 85-of-166 faceoffs and picking up 36 ground balls ... Jesse Bernhardt leads the team with 18 caused turnovers, while Niko Amato  anchors the defense with a 7.04 goals against average and a .582 save percentage.

Last Time Out
Sophomore attackman Josh Dionne spearheaded a 5-0 third quarter run by the Blue Devils with four consecutive goals to lead Duke to a 13-5 win at No. 1 Virginia ... Jordan Wolf added two goals and four assists ... In goal, Dan Wigrizer made 14 saves ... CJ Costabile won 10-of-19 faceoffs and had nine ground balls.

Last Time These Two Teams Met
Maryland raced out to a 4-0 lead, scoring four goals on its first seven shots and never looked back to earn a 10-7 win over Duke ... The Blue Devils trailed by as many as six in the third quarter before rallying in the final frame ... Josh Dionne led all Blue Devil scorers with three goals and Justin Turri threw in two ... Kyle Turri earned his first start of his career, making eight stops.

Versus the ACC in 2012
Duke heads into the ACC Tournament with a 2-1 record against league foes ... The  Blue Devils lost to Maryland, 10-7, and defeated North Carolina, 13-11, and Virginia 13-5 ... Josh Dionne is tops in goals for Duke with 10 in the three games, while Jordan Wolf has four goals and eight assists ... Christian Walsh has chipped in seven goals ... CJ Costabile has won 33-of-59 faceoffs and picked up 24 ground balls and caused five turnovers ... Michael Manley has forced six turnovers ... Duke is allowed 8.67 goals per game in the ACC ... All three goaltenders, Dan Wigrizer, Kyle Turri and Steve Rock started an ACC contest this year.

Staying Out of the Penalty Box
Duke has dramatically cut down the amount of time it spends in the penalty box recently ... In the first four games of the year, Duke was whistled for 25 penalties for 24:30 ... In the past four games Duke has served nine minutes in the box for 12 penalties ... Duke allowed 23 man-up chances in the first four games and just 10 in the past four ... In this eight-game win streak, Duke is averaging four penalties 3.6 man-up chances and per game.

Improving Shot Percentage
Duke has scored 102 goals on 296 shots during the eight-game win streak for a .345 shot percentage ... In the six games prior to that the Blue Devils notched just 62 goals from 242 shots for a .256 percentage ... Duke shot a season-low .081 percentage (3-of-37) in the loss to Notre Dame.

Sharing the Ball
Duke has dished out 61 assists in the past eight games after amassing just 22 helpers in the first six games of the year ... The  Blue Devils had a season-high 13 assists in the win over Dartmouth ... Duke has assists on half of its goals in seven of the previous eight outings.

Scoring in the 2nd and 3rd Quarters
Duke has outscored its opponents 98-60 in the second and third quarters combined ... The Blue Devils have been outscored four times in the second quarter and three times in the third, but just once in each quarter during the eight-game win streak.

Duke in the Month of April
Duke is 164-170 all-time in the month of April ... Under head coach John Danowski, the Blue Devils are 25-4 in the fourth month of the year ... From 2007 until April 23, 2010 Duke did not lose a game in the month of April.

Reaching the Perfect 10
Since 2007, Duke is 81-4 when scoring at least 10 goals in a game ... The Blue Devils are 10-18 when being held to fewer than 10 scores ... Duke is 22-16 when allowing 10 goals in a contest and is 69-6 when holding opponents under 10 goals.

Against Ranked Opponents
Since 2006, Duke has amassed a 66-25 (.725) record versus ranked opponents ... This season Duke is 5-3 against ranked opponents with all three losses coming to top-10 opponents ... Duke is averaging 10.12 goals per game against top-20 foes and allowing 9.38 goals per game ... One Goal Games
Duke improved to 68-61 all-time in games decided by one goal  when it fought back to beat Marist 11-10 ... Duke played a program-high seven one-goal games in both 1994 and 1997 ... Duke is 10-5 in one-goal games under John Danowski and 2-0 in 2012 ...  In the ACC Tournament, Duke is 4-2 in one-goal games and 3-1 against Maryland among those games.

Danowski Wins No. 300

Sophomore Jordan Wolf owns nine career hat tricks, including three this season ... He is tied for third among all Division I sophomores in career hat tricks, behind Detroit Mercy's Joel Matthews and Shayne Adams ... Overall, Wolf has scored three-plus points in 19 of his 34 career games.

Costabile Picking Up Grounders
Senior longstick midfielder CJ Costabile ranks among the nation's top ground ball guys ... Costabile faces off regularly for the Blue Devils and is a key member of the defense ... He currently ranks second among active Division I players in career ground balls with 325 ... Duke goaltender Joe Kirmser had 327 ground balls and defenseman Parker McKee graduated with 313 ground balls in his career, the most in the past 20 years of Duke lacrosse.

Wolf and Rotanz Are Duke's Top Scoring Duo
Sophomore attackmen Jordan Wolf and senior Robert Rotanz have combined for 83 points for the year to rank eighth among top scoring tandems ... Colgate's Peter Baum and Ryan Walsh are the top tandem with 107 points ... Virginia's Steele Stanwick and Chris Bocklet are the top duo in the ACC with 94 points.

Scoring Trio
Duke's top three scorers, Jordan Wolf, Josh Dionne and Robert Rotanz have combined for 74 of Duke's 164 goals for 45 percent of the team's total for the season ... Wolf, Dionne and Rotanz are the top goal scoring trio in the ACC and the third highest among all Division I teams.

Junior goaltender Dan Wigrizer broke the 400 career saves mark with 14 stops at Virginia ... He currently ranks third among all junior goalies in career saves with 413 and is 12th overall among active Division I backstops.

Lacrosse Runs in the Haus Family
Freshmen midfielder Will Haus hails from a  strong lacrosse background ... His older brother, John, is a junior midfielder at Maryland and was recently voted to the All-ACC squad ... His father, John, was a two-time All-American at North Carolina and currently serves as the head coach at Lebanon Valley College.
