Highlighting the competition for Duke is sophomore Curtis Beach, who qualified in both the 800 meters and the long jump.  Beach is the first male Blue Devil to qualify for two individual events since olympian Dave Sime raced in both the 100 and 200 meters at the 1956 NCAA meet.

Beach, the 2012 NCAA indoor heptathlon champion and 2011 NCAA outdoor decathlon runner-up, will be busy on Wednesday evening with the trials of both the long jump and 800 occurring simultaneously.  However, this should not be too big of an issue for the usual multi-event competitor, who is used to competing back-to-back.

Junior Juliet Bottorff, the 2011 NCAA 10,000 champion, is making her third appearance at the national event and will look to defend her title in the longest race of the collegiate championships.  Last week, the Newark, Del., native finished fifth in the east regional race in a time of 34:25.78.

Senior Cydney Ross is the final Blue Devil to qualify for a running event and will race in the 800 for the second time in as many years.  The St. Louis, Mo., native earned first team All-America honors last year in the event and ran a time of 2:06.53 in Jacksonville, Fla., to qualify.

In the field events, junior Andrea Hopkins is making her second appearance at NCAAs in the women's javelin.  The Lake Oswego, Ore., ranks third on Duke's all-time list with a personal best throw of 157-9.  She will be the first Blue Devil to participate in the championship event with her event scheduled to begin Wednesday at 2:40 p.m.

Other Blue Devils set to contend on Wednesday include sophomore Erica Brand in the discus and senior Amy Fryt in the pole vault.  This is first NCAA outdoor competition for both women however Fryt gained championship experience at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2011.  Brand finished fourth at the NCAA first round with a school record breaking mark of 175-10.

Sophomore Michelle Anumba will throw the women's shot put on Friday at 5:00 p.m.  The school record holder in four events earned second-team All-America honors during the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Senior Michael Barbas will close out the competition and his Duke career on Saturday by competing in the men's shot put.  The Houston, Texas, native smashed the school record last weekend with an 18 inch personal record throw of 60-8 to qualify for this weekend's competition.

Live video and results will be available during the entire championship event via the NCAA.com.  For more coverage, a full recap will be available after each event day on www.GoDuke.com.
