DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke stands in 14th place in the latest Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, released this week by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. The Directors' Cup rankings measure an athletic program's comprehensive sports success by totaling points based on a team's finish in national competition.
After the previous ranking released on May 31, Duke's point total increased from 849.50 to 894.50 as the Blue Devils posted scoring finishes in men's golf (40 points) and women's track and field (5) to close out the 2011-12 year.
With the point total, Duke sits in third among private schools behind Stanford and USC. In addition, Duke is third among Atlantic Coast Conference programs behind Florida State (9th; 978.00) and North Carolina (12th; 955.50). Virginia is the only other conference school to finish in the top 20 with 885.00 points, good enough for 15th place.
