2012; $20.00; Hardcover) is set to be released on July 3, 2012 with one pre-release signing scheduled for June 27 at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., followed by multiple dates in early July in the Durham, N.C., area.
The book, written by Amy E. Unell, compiles the 60 years of inspiration and influence that Coach Buehler has had in the Duke University community as a professor and coach and the impact he has had on the U.S. Olympic Track and Field team as the team manager and member of the coaching staff for four Olympic competitions. It is not only a tribute to a man who continues to make a difference in so many lives but is also an inspiring book filled with his "Coachables," or words of wisdom.
Buehler's legacy includes his passionate support of racial and gender equality. Along with his best friend and former United States Olympic Committee President, the late Dr. LeRoy Walker, he organized nationally televised international track meets at Duke in the 1960's. In 2011, Coach Buehler was honored with the Jackie Robinson Humanitarian Award for these efforts.
The book includes personal, never‐revealed stories from the Olympic athletes who have
been motivated by Buehler in the biggest moments of their lives at the Olympic Games.
Decades later, they still regard Buehler as someone who left an impact on their lives and on the sport they love.
"Al is the best example of a teacher-coach in intercollegiate sports."
- Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski
