GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Duke men's golf team placed five players on the All-ACC Academic Team for the third consecutive season as announced today by commissioner John Swofford. Senior Spencer Anderson, juniors Brinson Paolini, Adam Sumrall and Julian Suri along with sophomore Austin Cody were each named to the team as Duke and Georgia Tech each had five players named to the team.
Georgia Tech senior James White received the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, named for Duke coaching legend Rod Myers. White also won the top scholar-athlete award last season.
Suri was one of five golfers who earned All-ACC and All-ACC Academic Team honors this season, while Cody, Paolini and Suri were in a group of 12 players that were also named to the All-ACC Academic Team a year ago.
Paolini and Suri have been named to the academic team in all three seasons at Duke, while Cody and Anderson are two-time honorees. Sumrall, a native of South Bend, Ind., is making his first appearance on the All-ACC Academic Team. Duke has had 21 players selected to the league's all-academic team since its inception in 2007.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
