DURHAM, N.C. – Several members of the Duke baseball team are currently playing in various summer baseball leagues across the country.
Sophomore RHP Andrew Istler leads the Coastal Plain League with a 0.48 ERA. Istler, who is playing for the Wilson Tobs, also ranks first in fewest earned runs allowed (two) and opponent batting average (.103), second in innings pitched (37.1), second in fewest hits allowed (13), third in strikeouts (34) and fourth in fewest runs allowed (six).
Junior infielder Jordan Betts is tearing up New England Collegiate Baseball League pitching, batting .385 with five home runs, six doubles, one triple, 15 RBI and nine runs through 16 games for the Sanford Mariners. Among NECBL leaders, Betts ranks third in homers, fourth in batting average, fourth in doubles, fifth in hits (25) and seventh in RBI.
In the Valley Baseball League, juniors David Perkins (.326) and Mark Lumpa (.318) are both hitting over .300 for the Harrisonburg Turks.
In the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball, sophomore LHP Remy Janco holds the league high for strikeouts in a game, fanning nine Southampton batters on June 14.
