DURHAM, N.C. - Duke women's tennis head coach Jamie Ashworth announced on Thursday that Marianne Jodoin will transfer to Duke from Fresno State. A native of Varennes, Quebec, Canada, Jodoin just completed her sophomore year at Fresno State and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"We are extremely excited and fortunate to be adding Marianne to our team beginning this fall," Ashworth said. "She has been tremendously successful in her two years at Fresno State and we know that she will bring a wealth of experience into our program.  She left Fresno in hopes of finding a place that could challenge for a team national championship and ultimately that is the goal of our program here at Duke."

As a sophomore at Fresno State last year, Jodoin was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Year for a second consecutive time, and was honored in both singles and doubles on the WAC All-Tournament team. She posted a 19-5 record in dual match play, and 30-9 overall in singles matches, which helped her reach as high as No. 39 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings. In doubles, she posted an 18-11 overall record and 13-7 dual record. Jodoin earned an automatic berth to the NCAA singles championships, but fell to Washington's 17th-ranked Denise Dy in the first round.

During her freshman year at Fresno State, Jodoin was named WAC Player and Freshman of the Year, and was named first team All-WAC in singles and doubles.

"I chose Duke because of the coaching staff," Jodoin said. "They have great experience and they have been doing well forever. [The team] are one of the best in the country. I couldn't pass that up."

Jodoin has stayed active this summer and has played in four tournaments on the International Tennis Federation pro tour, including tournaments in Buffalo (N.Y.), Vancouver (Canada), Waterloo (Canada), and Granby (Canada). She advanced to the quarterfinals in both the Buffalo and Waterloo tournaments.

"We are looking forward to being able to work with her on and off the court and know that she is someone that will be a major contributor in the success of our 2012-2013 team," Ashworth said. "Many of the girls already here have known Marianne dating back to junior tennis and know that she will be a great player, person, and teammate for the Duke women's tennis program."
