DURHAM, N.C. - Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe announced on Monday that redshirt junior safety Taylor Sowell underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg.  Sowell is expected to miss the entire 2012 season.

The procedure was performed on Monday afternoon by Dr. Claude T. Moorman III, Duke's head team physician and the director of Duke Sports Medicine.

Sowell, a 5-10, 210-pound native of Spartanburg, S.C., has played in 11 career games for the Blue Devils, recording six total tackles.
