DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women’s tennis head coach Jamie Ashworth attended the Durham Bulls (59-71) and Charlotte Knights (76-54) Minor League Baseball game on Monday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. Prior to the game, Ashworth threw out the first pitch in front of a lively crowd.
In the game, the Knights jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before the Bulls battled back to bring it within one run going into the sixth inning. Charlotte scored two more runs in the sixth inning when Josh Phegley hit a two-run home run propelling Charlotte to a victory over the Bulls, 9-6.
Ashworth, entering his 17th year as head coach of the Blue Devil’s, is coming off a successful 2012 season in which his team made it the NCAA tournament for the 24th consecutive year, and made its 8th semi-final appearance in program history. Ashworth led the Blue Devil’s to a 29-3 record overall, as well as an 11-0 record in the ACC making him the ACC’s all-time wins leader. Ashworth and the Blue Devils ended the 2012 season ranked 3rd by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the second consecutive year. To add to an already accomplished career, Ashworth and the Blue Devils won the 2009 NCAA National Championship in 2009.
The Blue Devils will open practice on September 13, and will release its 2012-2013 schedule later this week.
