DURHAM, N.C. - Duke quarterback Sean Renfree and wide receiver Conner Vernon were both selected to the Senior Bowl Watch List on Thursday, as announced by Senior Bowl Executive Director Phil Savage.
In the organization's premier Watch List, Renfree, a redshirt senior, and Vernon, a true senior, were two of 47 ACC players on the 311-player list. The watch list identifies the top seniors in college football and will trim the list to 100 players who will receive invitations to the 2013 Senior Bowl on Jan. 26 in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
"The Senior Bowl is very pleased to announce our first-ever 'official' Watch List," Senior Bowl Executive Director Phil Savage said. "We want both college and pro football fans to enjoy tracking the players on our list as they begin their journey towards the Senior Bowl and the 2013 NFL Draft. We have included prospects from almost every level of the college game and look forward to monitoring their progress throughout the upcoming season."
Renfree enters his senior season as the ACC's most experienced quarterback with 23 starts and 29 games under his belt. A native of Scottsdale, Ariz. (Notre Dame Prep), Renfree is the ACC's active leader with 6,352 passing yards and holds the Duke record with a .634 (601-of-948) career completion percentage. Entering his third season as Duke's starting signal caller, Renfree has directed a Blue Devil passing game that has ranked among the top two in the ACC in passing yards per game in 2010 and 2011. He ranks among Duke's top five all-time in passing yards, passing efficiency, pass completions, pass attempts and touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Vernon is on the verge of breaking numerous ACC receiving records, including the most career receptions and most career receiving yards. A native of Miami, Fla. (Gulliver Prep), Vernon has 198 career receptions for 2,675 yards and 13 touchdowns and needs 34 receptions for 842 yards in 2012 to become the ACC's all-time leader in those two categories. He is also just nine catches shy of becoming Duke's all-time receptions leader and 643 yards away from breaking Duke's career receiving yards mark. Vernon has at least one catch in all 35 games he has played in during his Duke career, which is the longest active streak in the nation. A Preseason All-ACC selection, he has multiple catches in 15 consecutive games, as well.
The Blue Devils open the season at home on September 1 against FIU at 7 p.m., and season tickets are available online at www.GoDuke.com/tickets or by calling the Duke Athletic Ticket Office at 919-681-BLUE.
