DURHAM, N.C. - Former Blue Devil swimmer Ashley Twichell has been named to the United States' 2012-13 National Open Water Team roster, as announced by USA Swimming.

Twichell, a 2011 graduate of Duke, earned a spot on Team USA for the second consecutive year after winning the women's 10K Open Water National Championship in April. Twichell also won the 5K crown at the 2012 Open Water National Championships, becoming the first person to win both Open Water national titles since Chloe Sutton did so in 2007.

Named the 2011 Female Open Water Swimmer of the Year by USA Swimming, Twichell has made an impressive debut in the sport since graduating from Duke. She was a member of the U.S. National Open Water Team in 2011-12 and captured gold in the inaugural 5K open water team pursuit last summer at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.

During her career at Duke, Twichell was an All-American and Atlantic Coast Conference champion in the 1,650 freestyle and received Academic All-America recognition. She remains the program record holder in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 1,000 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle events.
