DURHAM, N.C. – The top-ranked Duke women’s golf team is set to play in its only local tournament of the 2012-13 season this weekend as the Blue Devils will compete in the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational from Oct. 12-14 at the 6,285-yard, par 72 Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Along with the Blue Devils, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Central Florida, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest will be seeing action.
The tournament will feature 18 holes of golf each day for a total of 54 holes. Tee times will begin at 8:51 a.m., off No. 1 and No. 10 tees on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, there will be a shotgun start at approximately 9:15 a.m.
Duke is coming off a tied for sixth place finish at the Liz Murphey Fall Preview, but played its best golf over the final two days moving up the leaderboard during both rounds. In two tournaments on the season, the Blue Devils have finished second and tied sixth, while being led by reigning National Player of the Year Lindy Duncan.
A product of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Duncan owns 15 straight top eight finishes and is currently ranked No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. She owns a 70.50 stroke average and has notched two top-five finishes.
