DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke rowing team opens its 2012 fall season this Sunday, Dec. 28, at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. The Blue Devils will enter four boats in the women's varsity open eight. Currently, 22 programs are slated to enter the WV8+ at the Princeton Chase, including reigning NCAA Champion Virginia.
At last year's edition of the Princeton Chase, Duke rower Emily Theys - who went on to earn All-South Region and All-ACC honors last season - won the women's 1x, placed third in the 2- and paced Duke's top V8 to a top-20 finish. Theys, who competes with the US Rowing Women's U23 National Team, returns this year as one of 11 seniors for an experienced Duke squad that boasts 16 total upperclassmen.
"We've gotten in some great mileage this fall," head coach Robyn Horner said. "Since this is the first race of the fall, it will be great to get out and race against someone other than our own team. We're excited to head up to Princeton and compete against a strong field from 22 different programs."
Following the Princeton Chase, Duke will compete at the head of the Chattahoochee in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4.
