PRINCETON, N.J. -- Duke rowing's top boat took 10th place out of 55 entries in the women's varsity open eight at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie on Sunday.
In the Blue Devils' 2012 fall debut, the crew of coxswain Caroline Kiritsy, Emily Theys, Claire Vannelli, Grace Cassidy, Laura Sciarrino, Caroline Williams, Lauren Miranda, Sophia Blair and Katie Dukovich turned in a time of 14:23.976 on the three-mile chase. The Princeton Chase's varsity open eight featured boats from 22 different programs, and Duke finished ahead of all but seven of them.
Also competing for Duke was the B boat of Sarah Baker, Dana Lerro, Katie Burke, Victoria Tsamis, Julie Rohde, Alex Stonehill, Sydney Johnson, Allison Beattie and Hannah Hewitt, which placed 26th with a time of 14:54.878.
Duke's C boat of Ashleigh Anne McKinney, Karolina Wadolowska, Elizabeth Howell, Sophia Staal, Patricia Kolman, Mary Wilson, Rachel Wolsfelt, Emily Hyland and Kaila Perez placed 38th at 15:21.925.
Duke's D boat of Simone Pitre, Jane McConnell, Nicole Antoine, Jeanette Llorens, Kathleen Lyons, Sarah Mayo, Lauren Musso, Altelisha Taylor and Heather Seeley took 54th at 16:48.639.
Up next for the Blue Devils is the Head of the Chattahoochee, a two-day event on Nov. 3-4 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
