Duke Roundball Notebook -- October 29, 2012
With one exhibition tilt under the belt and the start of the regular season 12 days away, GoDuke.com debuts its first Duke Roundball Notebook of the 2012-13 season. The Duke Roundball Notebook will feature quick-hitting notes, quotes, tweets and links and will be available on GoDuke.com every Monday morning throughout the year.
Duke Tops Century Mark in Exhibition Opener
The Blue
Devils posted a 105-87 win over Western Washington on Saturday, Oct. 27. Senior
forwards Mason Plumlee and Ryan Kelly each scored 22 points, while freshman
Rasheed Sulaimon added 20 points in the win.
Sulaimon exploded for 18 points in the first half of play, showcasing a nice outside shooting touch as well as the ability to get to the rim and finish in traffic. Plumlee dominated the paint on both ends of the floor while finishing with a double-double (22 points, 11 rebounds). Quinn Cook and Amile Jefferson also scored in double figures with 13 points apiece.
Duke shot 57 percent from the field and also went 31-of-40 from the free throw line in the win.
The Blue Devils topped the 100-point mark just one time in 2011-12 (exhibition games included).
AP Poll Streak Extended
Duke has been tabbed No. 8 in the AP Preseason Poll,
marking the 94th consecutive week the Blue Devils have been ranked in the top
10 of the poll. Duke has been ranked in the top 25 for an NCAA-best 97 straight
weeks.
Curry & Marshall Plumlee Sit Out Exhibition Opener
Senior Seth Curry and redshirt freshman Marshall Plumlee sat out the win over
Western Washington with lower leg injuries. Curry has missed time in the
preseason while monitoring soreness in his right leg. Plumlee suffered a stress
fracture in the second metatarsal of his left foot just before the start of the
preseason.

Duke hosts Winston-Salem State on Thursday, Nov. 1 in
its final exhibition tuneup before the Nov. 9 season opener against Georgia
