DURHAM, N.C.-The 2012-13 Duke University wrestling season gets underway this weekend at the fifth annual Hokie Open hosted by Virginia Tech Sunday, Nov. 4. First-year head coach Glen Lanham will be making his debut for the Blue Devils as Duke will be represented in every weight class in the season's first tournament.

The Hokie Open features two ranked teams and up to 17 ranked individual wrestlers across the 10 weight classes. The tournament is held at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va., and will begin at 9 a.m., Sunday. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for students.

The Blue Devils return nine starters from last season, including NCAA Tournament qualifier Tanner Hough at 141 pounds. Other top returners at the light weights include redshirt sophomore Brandon Gambucci and redshirt senior Peter Terrezza at 133 and 125 pounds, respectively.

Hough is coming off a season in which he became just the second Duke true freshman to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Gambucci just missed an at-large bid to the NCAA postseason tournament and Terrezza has the potential for great success in his final season.

Redshirt senior Diego Bencomo, a 2011 NCAA quarterfinalist, will anchor the lineup at 184 pounds, while redshirt freshman Marcus Cain makes his debut in a Duke uniform in the 149-pound division. Bencomo aims to return to the NCAA Championships after earning ACC runner-up honors in 2011 and winning a pair of matches in the NCAA Tournament.

A host of other redshirt freshmen also will be wrestling in a Blue Devil singlet for the first time with Michael Chapman and Brendan Walsh at heavyweight and Conner Hartmann at 197 pounds.

Andrew DeHart, Trey Adamson and Dylan Ryan will debut in the middle weights at 157, 174 and pounds for the Blue Devils. Among the redshirt freshmen, Cain led the way in his rookie season with 25 victories, while Hartmann had 18. Walsh looks to rebound from an injury a year ago and Ryan and DeHart both will aim to build on a solid freshman campaign and a strong preseason.

Other ACC programs at the Hokie Open will be Virginia Tech, North Carolina and NC State, while Big Ten representative Indiana also will be in attendance.

Live brackets will be available at www.hokieopen.com. Fans also can follow Twitter for updates on how Duke is faring throughout the day.
