The Albuquerque, N.M., native was the 2012 NCAA indoor heptathlon champion, earning a school and conference record 6,138 points in his victory. Trailing by 236 points heading into the final event, Beach turned in a world-record-breaking performance of 2:23.63 in the 1,000 meters for the come-from-behind victory.
The multi-event specialist won the 2012 ACC champion in the same event, earned 2012 second team All-America honors outdoors in both the 800 meters and long jump, finished the 2011 NCAA outdoor decathlon runner-up and competed in the 2012 Olympic Trials.
The Bowerman is awarded to the top male and female track athletes for each year. It is named after the legendary Bill Bowerman who served as the track and field coach at the University of Oregon for twenty-three years. He also served as the head coach of the 1972 U.S. Olympic team. His contributions to the track and field community in the United States and around the world has assisted in elevating the sport to where it is today.
