DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Henrique Cunha was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the 15th time in his stellar career at Duke, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. Cunha became the all-time leader in program history with 122 career doubles victories Sunday against Charlotte and has helped the fifth-ranked Blue Devils start the season 3-0 with 9-0 wins over Hawai’i, Elon and Charlotte.

A native of Jaú, Brazil, Cunha and sophomore Raphael Hemmeler defeated Charlotte's Forrest Edwards and Jack Williams, 8-2, to clinch the record Sunday at the No. 1 doubles position. With the win, Cunha and Hemmeler, the top-ranked doubles pair in the country have now won 12 consecutive matches dating back to the fall and own a 15-1 record for the season.

Meanwhile in singles, 11th-ranked Cunha posted a 2-0 record over the weekend at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, including a span of winning 18 consecutive games over his final three sets of the weekend after going down a break to Elon’s Cameron Silverman, 3-0. He defeated Silverman Saturday, 6-2, 6-3, and closed the weekend Sunday by downing Williams of Charlotte, 6-0, 6-0. In addition to the doubles record, Cunha also sits atop the charts for all-time singles victories in program history after passing Ludovic Walter at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in November.

Up next, the Blue Devils will serve as one of 15 host sites for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Jan. 25-27 at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Duke is slated to face Middle Tennessee State Friday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m., with the winner of that match taking on the winner of the match between Virginia Tech and Northwestern in the championship Saturday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m.
