Setting the Scene

  • Duke opens its ACC slate Saturday against top-ranked Maryland ... The contest is the first ACC contest of the year for both squads and will be televised by ESPNU with Quint Kessenich and Ryan Flanagan as analysts and Eamon McAnaney on play-by-play.
  • The Blue Devils are 2-3 overall, while Maryland is 3-0.

John Haus leads all scorers with seven goals and six assists for 13 points, while Kevin Cooper has seven goals and five assists for 12 points ... Charlie Raffa (28-of-49) and Curtis Holmes (13-of-20) have split time at the faceoff X, while Jesse Bernhardt leads the ground ball game with 16 ... Niko Amato anchors the defense with a 6.62 goals against average and a .630 save percentage.

Last Time Duke and Maryland Met
Drew Snider netted four goals and the Terps built a 7-4 first-half lead en route to a 16-10 victory in the NCAA semifinals in Foxborough, Mass. ... Curtis Holmes won 12-of-21 faceoffs and Niko Amato made 10 saves to lead Maryland to its second straight national championship game ... Justin Turri and Robert Rotanz both had two goals, while Jordan Wolf had two assists in the loss ... Dan Wigrizer made seven saves in 52 minutes of action.

Sophomore midfielder Will Haus and senior midfielder John Haus will square off for the fourth time as members of the Duke and Maryland lacrosse teams ... John is the Terps leading scorer with 13 points, while Will has three goals and four assists for Duke ... Will, starting the year on the second midfield line, has played more in a defensive midfield role lately ... Will has at least one point in four games this season.

Fowler Leads Faceoff Game
Junior Brendan Fowler has been outstanding at the X in his first season as the full-time draw man ... Fowler has won at least 10 draws in every game this season He owns a 63.9 percent success rate at the draw, tops in the ACC and sixth nationally .

Fowler Leads Ground Ball Game
In addition to winning 15.2 faceoffs per game, Fowler is averaging an ACC-best 10.2 ground balls per game, good for third nationally ... The Wantagh, N.Y. native has picked up a career-high 11 ground balls three times this season.

Duprey Manning the Defense
Junior longstick midfielder Luke Duprey had a career game against Notre Dame with a career-high five turnovers and four ground balls ... The five caused turnovers are the second most by a Blue Devil since the NCAA started tracking the stat in 2010 ... Only Tom Montelli '11 had more with six against Sacred Heart in 2010 ... Duprey leads Duke with 12 caused turnovers, ranking second in the ACC and 16th nationally.

Wigrizer Climbing Goalie Charts
Junior goaltender Dan Wigrizer owns 492 career saves in his three-plus seasons ... He needs just 60 saves to tie Dan Loftus for fourth all-time in Duke goalkeeper history.
