DURHAM -- On February 22, Duke Athletics hosted a group of middle school students from the Washington D.C. area with the support of the Brian K. Betts Foundation for Educational Enrichment.
Founded in honor of the late middle school principal, the foundation aims to inspire young people to be the first in their family to go to college.
The eight students and chaperones from Shaw and Hart middle schools in the metro D.C. area were treated to the VIP tour of the athletic facilities and campus, met with an admissions officer, attended class, and spent the evening in Cameron watching Duke Women’s Basketball take down Florida State.
The highlight of their day at Duke was the time they spent with many of our student-athletes. Members of the men’s basketball, women’s basketball, field hockey, football, and volleyball teams spent time with the students throughout the day, taking them to class, accompanying them on campus tours, and hanging out with them during the game. Despite the rainy day, the trip was a huge success and something the students will cherish forever.
