Chelsea Gray underwent successful right knee surgery on Thursday, March 14 performed by team physician Dr. Alison Toth. The surgery addressed her kneecap dislocation injury that occurred on February 17, 2013 versus Wake Forest.DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University junior
A native of Manteca, Calif., Gray started the first 25 contests of the season before suffering the injury during the first half against the Demon Deacons. The 2013 Co-ACC Player of the Year was averaging 13.1 points, 5.6 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals heading into game against Wake Forest. She leads the ACC in assists and steals, while sixth nationally in steals as well.
The 5-11 guard was on pace to set a Duke single-season record for steals with 89 in 25 contests, while posting three games with 10 or more assists. At home against seventh-ranked Maryland, Gray registered a career-high 28 points, three assists, four steals and three rebounds to lead Duke to a 71-56 victory.
Gray was selected to the All-ACC first team for the second straight year and is a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award. She is also a John R. Wooden Award, Naismith and USBWA national player of the year candidate.
Duke (30-2, 17-1 ACC) is coming off capturing the ACC Championship on March 10 and is awaiting the NCAA Tournament selection show on Monday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m.
