TEMPE, ARIZ -- Duke and Grand Canyon University played to a draw in a six-man match play event at Karsten Golf Club Thursday. The Blue Devils got wins from Brinson Paolini, Adam Sumrall and Michael Ricaurte. Paolini got off to a fast start and cruised to a 3 and 2 win over Mark Geddas. The Virginia Beach, Va., native birdied No. 3 and No. 4 to take a 2-up lead. He added wins on the next two holes as well to move to 4-up through six holes. Paolini capped off his win with. 12-foot par putt on No. 16. Sumrall was steady throughout th day en route to a 2 and 1 victory over Liam Brace, while Ricaurte engaged in a back and forth tilt with Marcus Syngel. The Columbus, Ohio was one-down at the turn before turning things around on the back nine. Ricaurte was unable to put the match away on No. 18 but quickly recovered to win the 19th hole and grab the win. Senior Julian Suri dropped a hard fought match Alec Dahlquist on the 21st hole, while Tim Gornik fell 1-down to Ryan Mahony. Mads Soegaard fell 3 and 2 in his first match play contest as a Blue Devil.
