DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke baseball team takes on Charlotte Wednesday in a non-conference matchup. The Blue Devils and the 49ers will square off at 6 p.m., at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Scouting the Blue Devils

Duke (10-10, 2-4 ACC) posted a 2-3 record over the past week. The Blue Devils secured a pair of non-conference victories over N.C. Central and Quinnipiac before dropping three decisions over the weekend to Virginia Tech.

Sophomore Andy Perez completed an outstanding weekend with a 3-for-4 performance Sunday. In three games against the Hokies, Perez went 8-for-14 (.571) with two doubles, a triple and a home run, good for a 1.071 slugging percentage. The triple and the home run were both the first of Perez’s career.

In his last outing, freshman James Marvel turned in a strong performance against N.C. Central Mar. 12. The Moraga, Calif., native tossed seven complete, recording 1-2-3 innings in five of the seven frames he threw while limiting the Eagles to three hits overall. Marvel allowed three runs on the evening, striking out three while issuing two walks.

Scouting the 49ers

Charlotte is 14-5 (0-0 Atlantic 10) on the season after sweeping Siena in a four-game series. The 49ers defeated the Saints, 7-6, Friday then took a double header Saturday by scores of 5-3 and 9-3. Charlotte completed the sweep Sunday with a 14-4 victory.

Charlotte Series History

Friday’s game marks the eighth meeting between Duke and Charlotte as the Blue Devils lead the all-time series 5-2. The Blue Devils defeated the 49ers in Charlotte, 12-5. Duke also picked up a 4-1 victory over Charlotte March 16, 2011 in Durham. The two teams first met in 1902 with Charlotte winning that inaugural meeting 11-1.
