No. 6 Duke Hosts No. 3 North Carolina in Primetime ACC Action
Sixth-ranked Duke (9-1, 2-1 ACC) hosts No. 3 North Carolina (9-1, 2-0 ACC) in its second night game of the season Thursday at 7 p.m. in Koskinen Stadium … The game will be broadcast on the ACC Digital Network … The Blue Devils are winners of five straight games heading into the contest and have compiled a record of 3-1 this season against ranked foes … The Tar Heels enter the mid-week matchup with a 9-1 overall ledger after defeating Boston College, 19-11, on March 23.

North Carolina Series History
Thursday’s contest marks the 28th all-time meeting between Duke and North Carolina with the Tar Heels holding a narrow 14-13 advantage in the series ... North Carolina has won four of the last five meetings between the two schools.

Last Time We Met
The last meeting between the two teams came on March 30, 2012 at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C. ... Both squads were ranked in the top-10 nationally heading into the matchup, with No. 5 North Carolina topping the seventh-ranked Blue Devils, 4-2, in a defensive battle ... Slippery field conditions prevented both teams from settling into a rhythm offensively, as Duke was held to its lowest scoring output since 1997 ... The Blue Devil defense held the Tar Heels to just four goals, 10 fewer than their season average ... Sophomore defender Gabby Moise made her first career start in the contest.

Current Blue Devils vs. North Carolina
Three current Blue Devils have recorded at least one point against Dartmouth in their careers ... Junior Molly Quirke has recorded four ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers in three games against North Carolina ... Senior goalkeeper Kaitlin Gaiss has totaled 11 saves in two career appearances against the Tar Heels ... Redshirt junior Maddie Salamone matched a career-high in last year’s meeting with two ground balls.

Duke vs. the Atlantic Coast Conference
The Blue Devils are 60-49 all-time against teams from their own conference and 39-27 all-time in ACC regular season games ... The squad is 2-1 in league action this spring after topping Virginia Tech (Feb. 8) and Virginia (March 23) and falling to Maryland (Feb. 24) on the road ... Duke currently sits in third in the conference standings.

Scouting the Tar Heels
Third-ranked North Carolina has won nine consecutive games entering Thursday’s contest and owns a record of 9-1 and a 2-0 mark in the ACC after defeating Boston College, 19-11, in its last outing on March 23 ... Kara Cannizzaro, this week’s ACC Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Tar Heel offense with 33 points on 27 goals and six assists ... Cannizzaro also has 12 caused turnovers on the spring while teammate Margaret Corzel has registered a team-high 13 ... Lauren Maksym owns an 8-1 record in goal for North Carolina to go along with a 5.99 goals against average and a .493 save percentage ... As a team, the Tar Heels paces the conference in ground balls per game (15.60).

Scouting the Blue Devils
No. 6 Duke is 9-1 (1-1 ACC) on the season after defeating No. 9 Virginia, 13-7, March 23 in Charlottesville ... The Blue Devils are winners of five straight entering Thursday’s contest and have held opponents to single-digit scoring in each of their last three games ... Sophomore Kerrin Maurer leads the team in points (43) and assists (20) while senior Makenzie Hommel has scored a team-high 27 goals ... Junior Taylor Virden leads both Duke and the ACC with 21 ground balls ... In goal, ACC Defensive Player of the Week Kelsey Duryea has started the last five games, posting an  8.55 goals against average and a league-leading .557 save percentage.

Last Time Out
Sixth-ranked Duke outscored No. 9 Virginia 7-2 in the second half to top the Cavaliers by a 13-7 score March 23 in Charlottesville ... Senior Makenzie Hommel led all players with four goals and junior Maddy Morrissey added three as the Blue Devils extended their win streak to five straight ... Duke led in shots, 27-21, and in ground balls, 11-4, while committing a season-low six turnovers ... The defense held its opponent to single-digit scoring for the third consecutive game and the sixth time on the season ... In goal, freshman Kelsey Duryea matched a season-high with 12 saves while improving to 5-0 this spring.

Familiar Foes
Duke and North Carolina have faced three of the same opponents this season ... Both squads collected wins against Richmond, Georgetown and Virginia ... The Tar Heels are also slated to face two non-conference opponents that the Blue Devils have defeated - Jacksonville and Vanderbilt.

In the Month of March
Duke has played 122 games in March in program history ... The Blue Devils are 87-35 all-time during the month ... The squad is 5-0 in the month this year following Saturday’s win over Virginia ... Duke last lost in March on March 30, 2012 in a 4-2 decision against North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Against Ranked Opponents
Since the 2008 season, Duke is 39-33 against ranked teams ... The Blue Devils have lost just five times to teams ranked outside the top 10 in the past five years ... The 2012 season saw the Blue Devils compile a 6-7 ledger against ranked squads ... Duke is 3-1 against ranked foes this season with wins over No. 11 Georgetown (March 9), No. 13 Dartmouth (March 17) and No. 9 Virginia (March 23), and a loss to then-No. 4 Maryland (Feb. 24).

Home Sweet Home
The Blue Devils have been tough to beat at Koskinen Stadium in recent years ... From 2007-12, the program notched a 48-10 record when playing at home, including 10-0 marks in both 2007 and 2011 ... Duke is 6-0 in Koskinen this season and 124-38 all-time in home contests ... The Blue Devils’ last home loss was a 12-3 defeat at the hands of then-No. 4 Maryland in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament on April 21, 2012.

Duke Top-10 Nationally in Points Scored
In the March 24 edition of the NCAA’s Division I team statistics, the Blue Devils were ranked 10th nationally in points scored with 195 through 10 games (141g, 54a) ... Duke also ranked among the top 20 teams in the country  in scoring offense (11th, 14.10 gpg), scoring defense (t-17th, 8.30 gapg), scoring margin (t-11th, 5.80) and in draw controls per game (t-18th, 13.80).

Devilish on Defense
The Blue Devils’ defense ranks third in the ACC and is tied for 17th nationally, allowing opponents just 8.30 goals per game ... Duke has limited opponents to single-digit scoring six times this season and in three consecutive games, including in a 13-7 win over No. 9 Virginia (March 23) ... The team collected the second shutout in program history and first since the 1998 season in a 23-0 victory over Presbyterian (Feb. 10) ... Sophomore defender Gabby Moise is tied for second in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (1.30) while junior Taylor Virden ranks fifth (1.10).

Maurer One of the Nation’s Top Scorers
Following an impressive rookie campaign, sophomore Kerrin Maurer continues to lead the Blue Devil attack in 2013 ... Maurer currently ranks second in the ACC and 14th nationally with 43 points this season for an average of 4.30 per contest ... The Setauket, N.Y., native is also second in the conference and 19th nationally in assists (19), and comes in at ninth in the ACC and  is tied for 48th in the NCAA in goals (23) ... She has posted three hat tricks and recorded six multi-assist games this spring, in addition to matching or setting new career highs in every category.

Scoring Streaks
Sophomore Kerrin Maurer has scored at least one point in every game this season while junior Molly Quirke and sophomore Taylor Trimble have registered a point in nine straight contests entering the matchup with North Carolina ... Maurer and sophomore Brigid Smith have collected a hat trick in three games, with Maurer also logging six multiple-assist efforts ... Senior Makenzie Hommel leads the squad with six hat tricks on the spring.

Quick on the Draw
Through 10 games, Duke leads its opponents in draw controls by a 138-105 margin ... Redshirt junior Maddie Salamone leads the squad with 31 draw controls this spring for an average of 3.44 per game, which ranks her tied for fourth in the ACC ... Junior Taylor Virden is sixth in the league with 3.00 draw controls per game.

Scheduling the Best
Duke’s 2013 slate currently features six teams ranked in the top 20 of the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll ... The Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season against then-No. 4 Maryland on Feb. 24 ... The Terrapins moved up to the top spot in the following week’s IWLCA poll ... Duke has notched wins against No. 11 Georgetown (March 9), No. 13 Dartmouth (March 17) and No. 9 Virginia (March 23).

Duryea Accumulating Weekly Honors
Following an impressive performance in an 11-10 win over Georgetown, freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week (3/12), the WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week (3/11) and the Baltimore Sun National Women’s Player of the Week (3/15) ... Duryea made 11 stops against the Hoyas, including a save on a free position attempt with five seconds remaining which preserved the victory for Duke ... The Beverly, Mass., native garnered ACC Defensive Player of the Week accolades again on March 26 after posting 12 saves in a 13-7 win over No. 9 Virginia (March 23).

Attack Duo Moving Up Career Lists
Senior Makenzie Hommel and sophomore Kerrin Maurer have both started the 2013 season in strong fashion ... Hommel has registered a team-high 27 goals to go with six assists for a total of 33 points, while Maurer owns 23 goals and leads the team in assists (20) and points (43) ... Hommel needs just five more points and Maurer eight to reach the 100-point mark for their careers ... Maurer is also approaching the 50-assist milestone with 44 in just her second season.
