DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Henrique Cunha of the ninth-ranked Duke men’s tennis team was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office. The honor is Cunha’s third this season and the 18th time in his illustrious career at Duke he has garnered the award.

A native of Jaú, Brazil, Cunha continued his dominant final campaign this weekend, as he played to a 2-0 record in doubles and a 1-0 mark in singles. In Friday’s 7-0 win over Clemson, Cunha and doubles partner Raphael Hemmeler, the top-ranked doubles tandem in the country, downed 17th-ranked Yannick and Dominique Maden, 8-3. In singles, Cunha kept his winning streak alive as he dropped 17th-ranked Y. Maden, 6-4, 6-3.

In Sunday’s 5-2 victory at Georgia Tech, Cunha and Hemmeler sealed the doubles point for the Blue Devils for the seventh time this season with a dominating 8-2 win over No. 51 Juan Spir and Eduardo Segura. The tandem now ranks fifth in program history in doubles wins for a single season with 29.

The dynamic duo of Cunha and Hemmeler own a 29-3 record for the season in doubles, while the pair is 7-0 in ACC competition. The duo has strung together 14 consecutive wins for the second time this season, including five straight over ranked opponents. In singles, Cunha holds a 26-3 mark, including a perfect 14-0 tally for the dual season and a 6-0 ledger in ACC play.

The Blue Devils return to the courts to take on No. 53 Miami at Ambler Tennis Stadium Sunday, April 14. First serve is slated for noon.
