DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s golf team, 10th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, will play in the third annual Wolfpack Spring Open Saturday and Sunday at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh. The Blue Devils were able to add the tournament to their schedule after competition days at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational and Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate were taken away due to weather conditions.

“It was a unique opportunity to be able to add this tournament late in the season,” said head coach Jamie Green. “We weren’t expecting to be able to play but it is a great privilege and chance for our guys to tee it up locally again. It is a benefit to the team any time you are able to prepare for your conference championship by playing on similar types of grass. We are looking to capitalize on that opportunity.”

Duke is joined in the tournament field by ACC foes N.C. State, Clemson and Boston College as well as Drexel, Francis Marion, George Mason, Canisius, Columbia, Loyola (Md.), William & Mary and Valparaiso.

The Blue Devils’ will feature a lineup consisting of Brinson Paolini, Motin Yeung, Mads Soegaard, Austin Cody and Adam Sumrall with seniors Julian Suri and Tim Gornik also competing as individuals.

Paolini, a Byron Nelson Award finalist, leads the Blue Devils with a 72.2 stroke average, 10 under-par rounds and three top 5 finishes. The Virginia Beach, Va., native has placed in the top 20 in all eight events this season and currently ranks 21st in the Golfweek/Sagarin Individual Rankings.

Yeung and Soegaard, both freshmen, rank third and fourth on the team in stroke average at 72.6 and 73.0, respectively. Yeung is coming off a 10th place finish at the Aggie Invitational, while Soegaard owns three top 10 finishes and nine under-par rounds on the year.

Cody and Sumrall each have 73.4 stroke averages with a pair of top 10 finishes. Sumrall grabbed medalist honors at the 36-hole Trojan in his last outing.

Suri enters the tournament with a 73.7 stroke average with five top 20 finishes. Gornik owns three top 20 finishes, including a third place showing at The Trojan, to go along with a 73.9 stroke average.

As a team, Duke has captured three tournament titles this season while posting nine under-par rounds and three under-par tournaments.

The Wolfpack Spring Open, a 36-hole event, is hosted by N.C. State and is being played at the par 72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The track was developed by The Palmer Course Design Company and opened in 2008.
